Hello Sancti, Hi from flood and cyclone ravaged Queensland. I just looked at the first list  of names you printed and wondered if you could find the Lang/Wilson picture.  It sounds like my ancestors, Marion Lang and David Wilson. I have not been able to find the death of David but Marion died Jan 1860 and David sometime 1851 - 1861c. Other names are interesting but not the right combinations for me. I would be interested in the other Lang names in case Mungo appears.   Which cemetery were you speaking about in this posting.  On the Frame Family worldwide website which comes under the umbrella of ancestry.com where we can post pictures and attachments there are a lot of pictures from Bent Cemetery posted by one of the Frame members.Thankyou,

Thankyou then maybe i will have nobody in Bothwell but have asked  yesterday on another posting which you had for Hamilton churchyard if you could look at Gabbie (Gebbie).  My ancestors Martha Gebbie and William Buchanan were married 1814 in Hamilton. Martha died pre 1855. William 1862. I have the Frame/Smellie, Wilson/Lang, Wilson/Frame, Some other Gebbie siblings John and Isabella, Wilson/Stirling and possibly Lang/Stirling although Lodger seems to think it could be Lang/Liddel.  I do have the photo of my Smellie Frame and family, also Douglas/Buchanan. My ancestors William Smellie Frame (Smellie Frame) and Janet King were married 1834 but Janet died pre 1851c. If you come across any of these, would love to see them. Heather.

Would you be able to send a copy of the SCOTT TUDHOPE stone? I would be so grateful. We have an oil portrait of Agnes Tudhope on our wall. She died of TB age 36 yrs.

Thank you

Sancti, any Clydesdale's in there by any chance (no the horsey wans!), I notice you've a Clyd in there.
And Oblige,

Thanks, my Mum's family are the Scotts. They started up the Jam works. They married into the Tudhope family from Stonehouse.

Not sure how to give you my e-mail address as the 'private message' function does not work until you have posted three times.

Do you have a location for the name?

Thanks for that Sancti, they were from Bothwell parish, late 1700's. Maybe the money went on mince rather than gravestones!

I had a hunch this would be the case. Agnes Tudhope looks so sad in her portrait. I would be interested in seeing which children are listed/

Hi

I'm trying to find out if there is a memorial for the Thomson family who lived at Knowehead near Bothwell.  James Paterson (b1865) married an Alison Porteous (1873-1909) in 1891 and I see both surnames on your list and wondered if either is mentioned on any of the monuments.  They had five sons, John, Thomas, Robert James and Alexander, born between 1892 and 1907.

Many thanks

Richard Miller

Many thanks for that.  Unfortunately, it looks as though the family isn't buried in Bothwell Parish Churchyard so it's back to the drawing board.

They may be buried in Bothwell churchyard as there are a lot of illegible headstones but as they lived at Knowehead Farm which was in Uddingston they could be in Bothwellpark cemetery in Bellshill

They could easily be buried there but not commemorated on a stone.

I suspect that they would have had a stone as  James seems to have been a reasonably prosperous butcher but maybe not.

Mind you, I can't find him dying in Lanarkshire so maybe they moved away.
Title: Re: Bothwell churchyard
Post by: sancti on Sunday 30 September 12 11:27 BST (UK)
Have you checked the marriage records of his children to see when he was recorded as deceased?
Title: Re: Bothwell churchyard
Post by: LawsideOpener on Sunday 30 September 12 12:19 BST (UK)
I know he was alive in 1933 and his children were married by then.  I've looked at every likely death in Lanarkshire after that without success and hoped he might have been buried back near his old home and be on a tombstone.   I'll try North Lanarkshire burial adminstration to see if I can find his wife's grave and that might narrow the search.

Thanks for all the help and advice.  If I find him it'll be one more off the very long list!
Title: Re: Bothwell churchyard
Post by: sancti on Sunday 30 September 12 12:26 BST (UK)
Did the children all marry in Lanarkshire?
Title: Re: Bothwell churchyard
Post by: LawsideOpener on Sunday 30 September 12 14:31 BST (UK)
So far, I've found four of the five children marrying in Bothwell.  A brother, Alexander, died in Jan 1934 and James registered the death giving his address as 181 Main Street, Uddingston.

I did wonder if one of his children emigrated and he'd gone abroad with them but I haven't been able to trace evidence.  One son definitely died in Coatbridge in 1960 so there were still relatives living in the area well into James' dotage if he survived that long.

Several others have been searching for James' death for quite some time without success so it's proving a real mystery.  In a way, trying to find a headstone online was my big hope.
Title: Re: Bothwell churchyard
Post by: LawsideOpener on Sunday 30 September 12 14:48 BST (UK)
Good News!

I have found James.  He died in hospital in Stonehouse and it looks as though he was living with a son in Broomhouse at the time.

I thought I'd checked every death in Lanarkshire but obviously I'd missed that one until I revisted my search list.

Thanks for all your help and encouragement.  It's great to know that there are people willing to offer so much to strangers.

By the way, I've now found the Death Notice from The Herald and it confirms that the funeral was to be held at Bothwell Park Cemetery so you were spot on with that advice too.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Sancti,

Some of my family are buried in Bothwell cemetery, and I notice the surnames are in your list (Hossack / Stevenson, Hossack / Wilson and Hossack / Hopkins). I'd very much appreciate a picture of the gravestones - i've been trying to send a private message but can't.

My email is *

I hope that's OK?

Hi, I'm new to the site and registered but it won't let me PM you... (Or I don't see how.) I'm interested in your gravestone picture that just has "Williamson." Is there a year? I'm looking for Alexander Williamson who was buried in Bothwell Churchyard in 1856. Is that the Bothwell Parish Churchyard with the beautiful old church? My ancestor died in Longdales Lunatic Asylum of Chorea (Huntington's, I believe).
