Hello, I'm currently in the process of trying to trace back my surname as far as possible.   I've reached a dead end and I was hoping that someone here might be able to assist me.

The furthest I've been able to go back is to William Eddie who married Elspet/Elizabeth MacDonald in 1810.  I have no birth date information.  Their son James was born in Nairn and later moved to Glencoe, Ontario.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; I would love to know more about my family before they left Scotland!

Hi

The IGI records have William Eddie's parents as Hugh Eddie and Janet McBain and his death as 1853.  Elspet's parents as Alex McDonald and Margaret McLeon (suspect this is either McLean or McLeod) Elspet died in 1855.  1855 is when Scottish Records began so you should be able to find her death certificate on Scotland's People.  From this certificate you will be able to confirm her parents names.  You may also be able to find them on the census records on Scotland's People.
