Annie Caldwell (Coleraine,Northern Ireland DOB: 1889) married Robert Moffatt in 1916 in Victoria,British Columbia. Looking for information.
-
I can find a Moffatt family living in Portland, Oregon on the 1930 US Census which could very likely be yours.
Robert Moffatt, age 41, head, married, age 27 at first marriage, born Northern Ireland, both parents born Northern Ireland, immigrated to US in 1927, alien, occupation Janitor of an apartment house.
Annie Moffatt, age 41, wife, married, age 27 at first marriage, born Northern Ireland, both parents born Northern Ireland, immigrated to US in 1928, alien
Ernest R. Moffatt, age 5, son, single, born Canada - English, both parents born Northern Ireland, immigrated to US in 1928, alien.
Annie E. Moffatt, age 13, transcribed as roomer but I think it should be daughter, single, born Canada - English, both parents born Northern Ireland, immigrated to US in 1928, alien
Plus 3 roomers
If you are interested, I can look up the 1916 BC marriage registration and give you a transcription of the document but I won't be able to do in until the New Year as our local FHS library is closed for the holidays.

There was a Robert Moffatt, born July 15, 1889, Gaskel, Ulster, Ireland, who served in the CEF during WW1. His residence was Victoria, BC, and his wife was Annie. There are problems with the images at present; however, I've included the link so that you can check the attestation papers (2 pages).

do you think it could be them???? No problems busy time of year - how do you find out this information??? I cant believe you are so quick!!
-
I think there is a very good chance this is Annie and her family. Ages and birth place certainly fit and the children were born in Canada. I wish I could find a border crossing document but haven't had any luck with that.
Due to Canada's strict privacy laws, the birth records of the children would not be public record unfortunately.
I found the information on this thread and on Margaret Caldwell's thread through Ancestry.

Thank you - it is getting interesting but I was wondering regarding the information getting close to nowadays whether you Privatemessage me???
-
Hi
You asked where do you go from here? In answer, I guess it depends if you want to spend the money to order the death certificates to try to determine if they are your family. I've included links to the agencies that handle the vital stat records in each state.
http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/birthdeathmar/Pages/default.aspx
http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/chs/order/faqs.shtml
You also asked if you would be contacted by PM with information in current times? Yes, if any of the researchers turned up information of a sensitive nature or information about living persons, then the Rootschatter would contact you by PM. We are not permitted to include any information on the boards about living or possibly living people.
Continued good luck with your search and Season's Greetings to you.

THank you for that but do you think that perhaps it is the wrong person we have been looking at as it states Annie Cadwell and Annie Caldwell??? Or could it be a typo ???
-
Hi
The link that vbain posted is to the BC marriage that was mentioned in your first post on this thread.
I will look up this registration in the New Year and then we can confirm whatever information is provided. I suspect it is an error on the BC Archives site.
If you check the pilot family search site for the entry, she is listed as Annie Caldwell, daughter of Robert Caldwell and Nancy Baird.

I always use the BC Archives and the Pilot FamilySearch sites together to cross-reference information. It is not unusual to find errors or variations in spelling and dates as you research so the more cross checks you can do the better.

absolutely fantastic - opened the link and there it was - I am all smiles now - amazing what is out there!!! dont you think???
-
I tried to search Caldwell, and drew a blank.
Then I searched Robert Moffatt 2 Aud. 1916
It had Robert and Ann Cadwell
I think it is likely a typo, if the date is right. Cadwell and CAldwell are not common names.
-
Thank you for that - muchly appreciated - will be having fun in the next couple of months doing the research.
-
Jeni, did you have any success on the Annie Caldwell search?

ah, so Annie E Moffatt is probably "ELEANORE" from the 1921 census!!!!

ah, so Annie E Moffatt is probably "ELEANORE" from the 1921 census!!!!
JJ, yes, it's a funny story. During the family's immigration (emigration?) from Canada to the US, the government official handling the documents stuck Anne's first name in the middle name box, and put her middle name as the first name. She ended up keeping it that was, and was Eleanor from then on.
-
Oh, I see now there was another query on them and it has this and more
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=685017.0
adding: She was called Eleanore by her parents in Canada's census, so I'd bet to avoid confusion, although forenamed after her mother, she was called Eleanor ...
-
JJ, true, but this one was started first, so I don't feel bad about commenting here. :)
