Title: Request Lookup - James Gill
Post by: percy_veer on Thursday 30 December 10 20:32 GMT (UK)
I would be grateful if someone could perform a look up on James Gill in Roscommon. Occupation: Gardener. Possibly born approx 1809, but could be later.

Children:
Mary born 1838
Edward born 1860
Michael born 1861

Probably quite a few more, but I lack this information.

Was it typical during this time to father children in your early 50's?

There is a James Gill who died in 1892 aged 83 who was a gardener.

The birth of James is well before the start of Civil registration, and the children births are just before the start of full registration (1864) so you would need to check for available parish records to find out any details. To do this you need to know the family religion and a fairly detailed location for them - i.e. parish or townland. Not all parishes have records back as far as the baptism for James.
