hello John,

Scotlandwide 1860 to 1870 there are 5 William Smith Browns born.  Only one in Aberdeen

Born in Old Machar Aberdeen in 1867.  If you're willing to wait until tomorrow I can download the birth entry from the official govt website at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.  A ppv site reasonably priced and free to register  (significantly cheaper than 'commercial' sites'.

Regards,   Steve

Away to check the IGI to see if his birth is there.   :)

And from the IGI, William Smith Brown was born on 01 March 1867 - Old Machar Aberdeen to
Thomas Brown and Helen Crawford.

And lucky you John,

Helen Crawford and Thomas Brown married on 24 Nov 1855 - Old Machar.  The first year of national registration.  (extracted record from the IGI - means it can be downloaded from SP.

Downloading their marriage entry will give both parents names and occupations will also give the mothers maiden names.

I'm away now - shall be back on tomorrow - hopefully some can help with census records etc.

Regards,  Steve
