Hello;
If anyone can help, I would be greatfull. I am looking for information on the Higgins family who lived around Kinvara / Gort, Galway in the 1830's and later.
William Higgins born circa 1830 in Kinvara. Signed up for the army in Gort in 1847.
I am trying to find details of him and his family.
Any details / help / advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!

My great great grandmother was a Nora Higgins. The only info I have on her was that she married a John McCormack or McCormick, and had 3 sons: Patrick, James and Michael. She died at the age of 32 in 1845. I presume she was from Galway, as her husband and children were from Tuam.

Dear Quidditch
I too have ancestors James McCormick, father was Patrick, and Hannah Higgins, father was William.
I have them on the 1851 Census of Manchester, but could not find them in the 1841.
Do you think there is any connection as James called his second son, John.
Send me a p.m. please if you think they are, and I will send you my email address.
Thank you,
Pat

Hi, I have been researching Higgins Family, my Mother was a Higgins. Note on you list of names you had Thomas Higgins d 1923. I have a Thomas b.27 Jul 1841 at sea on "Albatross" arrived in Australia Nov.1841 aboard "Albatross",. HIs Father was Thomas Higgins m Mary O'Neill, b.1810 Tuam County Galway. He was my GG Grandfather. So if this is the same family your Thomas was my G Grandfather's brother.

Hi, NSWP,
Yes, I have seen your work on line and I strongly believe that there is a strong connection.
From a distant cousin, Mandy, I have heard that the Higgins family is still going strong in Tuam.
As a matter of fact, the family still resides on Thomas Higgins' farm. My Thomas Higgins was married to a Bridget Higgins, most likely a cousin. It is also possible that my Thomas and his wife Bridget had a son, Michael.
I knew that someone in my grandparents' family had emigrated to Australia, but I was never sure of whether it was a Robinson or a Higgins. It is very likely that your research has answered that question for me. Please keep in touch...Paul

Hi
I have recently discovered the grave of my Great Grandfather Thomas Higgins from Tuam Galway who came to Australia in the Albatross arriving in Sydney in November 1841. His wife was Mary O'Neill. They brought two children with them and another was born on the voyage. They settled in the Hunter River region north of Sydney as assisted migrants.
I have considerable detail about their descendants.

I have some additional information that I will put on line soon, as one of my cousins visited Tuam last summer and was able to acquire some tidbits. Unfortuanately, these tidbits only concern immigration to the States and not Australia. Nevertheless, we are probably talking about the same family...Paul

Hi pablo1,
I am also related to Thomas Higgins and Mary ONeill.
Do you have any information on their daughters Bridget & Honora (after she came out of prison)?
-
That I don't and that is where the naming patterns get confusing, as you can see by my previous post. I have only been able to go back as far as my great-grandparents. My great-grandfather
Thomas Higgins married Bridget Higgins and my grandmother's name was Honora (Nora), later changed in the U.S. to Honoree. I would imagine that Bridget Higgins was a cousin to Thomas. Could my Bridget be the one you are looking for?

Nora Higgins, my grandmother, arrived in the U.S. aboard the Celtic, on 29 Sept. 1902, aged 19,
Sarah Higgins, Nora's sister, had arrived in the U.S. on 2nd June 1899, aged 20.
Their aunt, name unknown, was living at 2431 Freemont St., San Francisco.
I believe that their brother, Luke Higgins, also came but have no further information on him.
As for Sarah, I do have some additional information:
1. Sarah Higgins married Dennis Gagen (Geoghegan) (c. 1882-1946); Dennis was killed in a traffic accident. Dennis worked as a chauffer and as a gardner. Family lived in Atherton and Menlo Park, California. They had issue,
2. Margaret Mary Gagen (1911 - 1991), d.unm.
2. Catherine Gagen (1914-1999) m. Gordon Bloomquist (1913-1998), son of Carl and Hilma Bollmquist. They had three sons who are probably still living.
2. Thomas L. Gagen (1915-1988) married Muriel Louise Nye (1918-1992), dau of Orrin Lester Nye and Edith Rahwyler. They had issue two daus, one of whom married a Donohue and had issue.

Many thanks, Kiltaglassan. Most of my information came from two distant cousins, one of whom came to Japan to visit me from England. She and her husband occasionally go to Galway for family events as the descendants of Tom and Bridget still reside on the same farm.
