Hi :)
I am hoping someone has access to the Bishops Castle Parish Registers. I am looking for the baptism/christening details of any children to Joseph Louis Maria Hetet (sometimes spelt Hetit) & Mary Morgan. According to FamilySearch they were married 5 Nov 1813 Bishops Castle.
Thanks in advance
Yvonne

As you have had no response to your request, I will have a look for you tomorrow while I'm at the Shropshire Archives :)

I checked the baptisms for 1813-1823 and this was the only one I could find:
No. 135
January 16th 1815 Louis son of Louis & Mary HETTET
No mother's maiden name or address shown.
I also checked 1810-1812 but nothing there either :-\

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my query. I was hoping to find more siblings for Louis but it looks as if there may not be any.
Thank you so much
Yvonne :)

Hi again,
Just rechecked on Family Search and they have a baptism/christening date for a Louis Hittet of 6th March 1815 at Bishops Castle. Parents Louis Hittet, Mary.
I wonder which is right even with the differences in the spelling of the surname.
Cheers

The Family Search records must only be used as a secondary source, in case of transcription errors etc. I see that Joseph and Louis' marriage is on there twice, probably because the transcriber wasn't sure what the surname said.
At the Archives, I was looking at a microfilm copy of the ORIGINAL parish register page, and it definitely looked like HETTET to me.
Where I can, I always check original material as the primary source.
Hope that helps :)

Have you managed to trace the family any further forward?
I can't find Louis jnr in the 1841 census ???
-
Hi,
I don't know if this helps but
I see in 1841 Mary is living with a Catharine Morgan who I presume is her mother - I have an 1831 census of Bishops Castle which only recorded heads of household - there are no Hetits of any spelling variation however there is widow Morgan, no occupation, with a total of 3 in the household.

I've just looked at the actual image for 1841:-
Church Street, Bishops Castle, Shropshire
HO107 piece 919 folio 10/10 page 13
Catherine Morgan 83 Grocer
Mary Hettit 47 Grocer
Both born in the County
No sign of husband.
On the transcription page Mary's surname has been transcribed as Hetter!!
Pity the 1841 didn't state whether married or widowed :-\

1851 census

HO107 piece 1983 folio 0 page 15
Mary Hetet Head Widow 56 Grocer born Salop, Bishops Castle

I have information on Louis in New Zealand to most of his present day descendants.
I am trying to trace him back and especially his father's roots in France. From what I understand his father JLM Hetet was a French prisoner of war in England. He left Louis and his mother Mary and went/was released back to France. Louis, as a teen, was sent to Mary's father. Just looking at the Census Mary's family appear to be grocers.
It is thought by the family in NZ that Louis came out here c1830-40 on a whaling? ship, returned to England? and came back to settle in NZ. So that would explain why Louis doesn't show in the 1841 Census he would have been in/on his way to NZ.

I am looking for Ngahuia Hetet born Te Kuiti c. 1865 father Henare Matengaro Hetet mother Te Ruwai Otimi Rautahi
I am interested in her marriage to Thomas Taylor Watt and have only found one note of a son Herbert Louis Watt b 1917.
Are there any other Watt children born to this couple and does anyone have Ngahuia on their tree?
Regards
