Title: Wiltshire border
Post by: Sue Thomas on Saturday 05 June 04 08:13 BST (UK)
I am trying to trace my family who were born and living in Limpley Stoke from 1800 to abt 1850. Would birth registrations appear under Bradford Wilts or Bath at that time? They lived in Upper Stoke according to parish registers but in 1851 & 1861 Census they are listed under adjacent village of Hinton Charterhouse which is down the road and in Somerset. I cannot locate any births after civil reg in 1837 for Bradford wilts. Does anyone have any ideas about what might happen in this location?
Thanks for reading this.
Sue

Hinton Charterhouse would probably come under Bath but you could try Frome.

For Limpley Stoke try Trowbridge.

Just looked up the GRO volume numbers for Limpley Stoke.

VIII for 1837-1851 and 5a 1852-1930 (unfortunately same as many other areas) but the registers are now in the Trowbridge district.
