Thanks for the extra information Norrie.
I do have a few more of the Markinch Hutchisons in my tree and will cross-check the list against them to see if there are any matches. It's not a direct line, but rather one that started with Christina Drummond so there aren't too many :)
I did notice that there's a Helen Drummond 'St.Dr 52' in the list. Any chance you could give me the details please?

John Cumming b c 1797 in Ceres, d 14/4/1876 markinch. .
His 1ST wife was elizabeth forbes b anstruther 22/1/1804 and who I think died around 1840.
His second wife was sophia johnston b 21/4/1812 in cupar, who died 25/10/1866 in markinch(milton).
If possible would like any details on headstone if any
Hope I,m not being too demanding, but some help would be great.

Hi Norrie
JOHN CUMMING- Death record from SP indicates he died in Milton, Markinch on 14/4/1876 age 79, widower of Sophia Johnston. I,m not sure of his exact birth details, but previous census data gives his place of birth as Ceres. Sophia Johnston was his second wife, she was born in Cupar on 21/4/1812, they married in Largo on 15/7/1850, they had a son John born Largo in 1851.
Sophia was the widow of a Thomas Miller and they had a daughter Janet born Ceres c1839 and she died Leslie 1901.
John Cumming,s first wife was Elizabeth Forbes, b Anstruther 22/1/1804 d c1840, they had a number of children, John b largo 1876, william born largo 1831, peter b largo 1833, possibly a Margaret and My direct relation David McRae Cumming b largo 1836 d leslie 1913, who married the above Janet Miller in East Wemyss on 24/12/1860. One strange thing I did notice that On David McRAE Cummind,s birth cert his mother,s maiden name is given as Forbes, but on his death cert it is given as Bowman. How can one explain that?
John Cumming,s parents I think were John Cumming and Magdalene(Maitland) ?? Brown.
I suppose even though he died in Markinch he may not have been buried there.
Kind regards
Gerry

Hi Gerry
JOHN CUMMING- Death record from SP indicates he died in Milton, Markinch on 14/4/1876 age 79, widower of Sophia Johnston.
That would be more than likely Milton of Balgonie about a mile from Markinch. There is a small cemetery around the Church there.
Stuart Farrell in his Monumental inscriptions list 50 stones but no Cummings
I,m not sure of his exact birth details, but previous census data gives his place of birth as Ceres. Sophia Johnston was his second wife, she was born in Cupar on 21/4/1812, they married in Largo on 15/7/1850, they had a son John born Largo in 1851.
Sophia was the widow of a Thomas Miller
Nothing for Thomas Miller
and they had a daughter Janet born Ceres c1839 and she died Leslie 1901.
Nothing on Janet
John Cumming,s first wife was Elizabeth Forbes, b Anstruther 22/1/1804 d c1840, married 1827 Largo they had a number of children,
John b largo 1828, william born largo 1831, peter b largo 1833, possibly a Margaret and My direct relation David McRae Cumming b largo 1836 d leslie 1913, who married the above Janet Miller in East Wemyss on 24/12/1860. One strange thing I did notice that On David McRAE Cummind,s birth cert his mother,s maiden name is given as Forbes, but on his death cert it is given as Bowman. How can one explain that?
Its possible the the person who registered the death did not know her maiden name its not unusual.
John Cumming,s parents I think were John Cumming and Magdalene(Maitland) ?? Brown.
Nothing for them
I suppose even though he died in Markinch he may not have been buried there.

Thanks for looking Norrie but I made a mistake. He did die in Markinch. Here is a quote from a local paper. (I searched my file after your response.)
The funeral service, from the home of his daughter, was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Walker, United Free Church, Markinch with whom, on short acquaintance, a strong friendship has been formed. As a token of respect, the cortege passed through the Village of Halbeath at walking pace on its way to the Dunfermline Cemetary.
Is there any online search for indexes for Dunfermline cemetaries?

Hi Norrie, could you please check & see if there is anthing for John DALRYMPLE & his wife Janet NESS. Regards dancing lady Australia
-
hi karen
if you go on to fife family history society ( records) there is mention of
william matthew of markinch 5th dec 1802,right side of spouse agnes king
int 13th nov 1802 (no 37 1802 ) there is also a child (10 days) of william mathew
25th july 1822 ( ??) at feet of his mother agnes king int 13th nov 1802 ( no 37 1802)
would think that date is wrong for child 1822 if mother died 1802,have a look on fife family
history society see what you think, there is quiet a few mathew and matthews.
eva
-
Thanks Eva,
I am pretty sure that the child of William Matthew is a grandchild of Agnes King. It took me a while to figure this out- the first William Matthew mentioned in the parish record is the grandfather William King. I believe the second mentioned is his son, William Matthew, and the child is at the foot of William Jr's mother (Agnes King). This for me that my Robert (son of Agnes and William) had a brother named William.
I also know from church records here in Canada that my Robert had two nephews come to Canada, named Robert and James- they may be sons of William. I will definitely take another look at the Fife historical society site. I am planning a visit to Markinch this summer, and I'm hoping to meet up with anyone researching the Matthew/Matthews while there.
Thanks for your help!

Me again, Norrie.
Yesterday, over on the Largo/Kilconquhar thread, you kindly provided the headstone inscription for William PRYDE and Margaret Millar in St Dronstans Markinch.
I am trying to chase down their descendants in regard to the Largo matter, but in the meanwhile do you happen to have a photo of the headstone at St Dronstans?
Thanks for your help (for about the 100th time).

Hi Norrie,
Nice to see you on here. I don't know if you might remember helping me figure out how James Philp died some years ago on the Rootsweb Fife list. I have never found out what happened to his son Robert Philp whom so far I have only found as a child in the 1841 census. Could you please check and see whether there are any Robert Philps in your Markinch list?

Thank you for the photo. I now know that William Pryde's death was reported by his son, Robert. Robert died 2005 in Glenrothes. Robert may have been childless since his death was reported by a nephew who could still be living and would, of course, be William's grandson and my second cousin.
I have obtained (with assistance from Talking Scot) what is hopefully a current address in Baintown, Leven, for the nephew and I sent a letter today. If you have any interest in the name I could send you a PM.
Am keeping my fingers crossed since this could be the branch of the family that owns the lair in Largo and knows all the family secrets (the matter of who fathered William and his 2 brothers).
Will keep you informed. Best regards, Mary

Hi Norrie
Thank you very much for looking and for sharing possible info. My problem has been that Robert Philp is a fairly common name in Fife and I have yet to find one that seems likely to be him in 1851. Since his mother had remarried by then (and didn't have her kids with her) and his brother was working as a servant I thought perhaps Robert had died. I will check the marriage record of this Robert Philp to see whether it is the correct one.
Thanks again!
-
Hi Norrie
Sorry it has taken me so long to follow up on this. Robert and Christina married in Edinburgh. It is the wrong Robert; he is the son of John Philp and Ann Phelps.
Thank you for looking for me. I posted some names on the Kirkcaldy board around the same time. I'll go back and quote my own post.

I am looking for a headstone for Samuel Brown (1949) and Euphemia Dow anderson Brown (1953) at st Droston's cemetery. Unsure about the dates
-
Hi, Norrie,
I'm looking for a headstone inscription for a Robert Paton (and wife Margaret Wallace) which, if it exists, would also as a bonus give his occupation!
This couple, who married in 1799, he from Markinch, she from Wemyss (I have the OPR entries, but no occupation is stated), are the parents, I hope, of a Janet Paton, who was born according to the census returns about 1812 in Markinch and died in Edinburgh 26 Feb 1863, aged 51 (so the stated age at death also fits in with the census ages), six months after her husband died. Her parents, according to the entry in the register of deaths were Robert Paton, cotton bleacher, deceased, and Margaret Paton, m.s. Paton, deceased. The death was registered by her son-in-law, who had just married into the family 18 months earlier and so probably didn't really know - probably never met - Janet's parents and so didn't know Margaret's maiden surname.
I see that there were two marriages of a Robert Paton in that area who were possible parents and I believe that Robert Paton/Margaret Wallace are the most likely, given that there were children born to them and christened in the right time frame (although Janet's birth/christening was not recorded, of course, just to make it difficult for us!): James (1800), Mary (1803), Elisabeth (1805) and Alexander (1808). I haven't actually looked at these records online, to see whether they give the occupation of the father (which I may still have to do, clearly) but the trail runs cold at this point, for any subsequent children were not recorded ...
There was one other marriage of a Robert Paton and a Margaret around that time (Robert Paton and Margaret Philp, both Markinch, 1803, and I have that OPR entry also, but again, no occupation), but an IGI parent search throws up no children born to this couple.
Her parents may, of course, have left the area at some stage, but a search for Janet Patons born Fife 1810-1816 produces 4, but none to a Robert, and a search for Janet Patons born to a Robert all Scotland 1799-1816 produces 3 (only one of which is a Robert and Margaret (but Margaret -Pollock-) but in Greenock, and he was a -slater-), or 4 if the surname is soundexed (Janet to a Robert Patten, but in Blantyre and mother not a Margaret).

Hello Norrie. Your posting caught my eye as I've just begun to research my direct ancestors, Wililam and Isabella Scott, who were living in Milton of Balgonie in the 1841 and 1851 census returns...which I believe is in Markinch Parish?
William Scott died a widow in 1855 in Selkirk where his son was living. I've found his death record in Selkirk. His death record states he was living in Selkirk only one year.
However, I don't have much information about his wife. Her name was Isobel or Isabel or Isabella Scott (maiden surname Bell). There is a chance she died in Markinch somewhere between 1851 and 1854 and that prompted her husband to move closer to his son in Selkirk.
Isabella Bell was born about 1783 in Dunbar so if she died in the early 1850's she would have been about between 67-72 I guess?
Can you tell me if there is a Isabella Scott or Bell buried in Markinch, between 1851 and 1854 and about 67-72 years of age? I couldn't find in OPRs.

Hi Norrie
Looking for headstones of SUTTIE.
I have a John Suttie born 1808 at Markinch, marries a Janet Grant (born Kettle).
I have them in the 1851 Census.
I think the John Suttie that dies Jan 1854 on SP at Markinch, and is interred on ''the south side of the Forrells (?) Stone" must be him although the ages do not quite tally. Janet dies 1856 in Falkland, but I don't know where she is buried.
John Suttie's father was a George Suttie, who married a Margaret Russell. He died 1864 at Scoonie (which I believe is not very far from Markinch) - again I do not know where he is buried.
George's father was another John, who married an Ann Baird in 1781 (but in Edinburgh)
Any other Sutties you have may also be related, and I would be interested to see.
Many thanks
-
Hi Goldie can’t find any headstones for John & Janet, George & Margaret
in index
From the dates of burial they would be in Old Falkland cemetery
but there is no listing of a stone for them in Stuart Farrell MIs

I have no Sutties in my index for Falkland
But www.Scottish Monumental Inscriptions has Sutties & Grants

grave in kirkcaldy? grateful if you could shed any light on all topics. Many
thanks norrie.
-
Many thanks for all the Suttie info Norrie. I have all the entries from the IGI, and the 1851 Census, but not the 1841.
'My' Isabella Tullis Suttie, married Robert Galloway in 1853 in Falkland. She dies 1896 in Kettle (address Kettle Bridge), Robert having died 1894.
Can you clear up this?
"From the dates of burial they would be in Old Falkland cemetery"
John Suttie's burial in 1854 is definitely from the Markinch OPR (from SP) - you seem to be saying that it would be in the old Falkland cemetery - does that mean people weren't buried at Markinch until a certain date even though they are in OPR for Markinch?
I did find out that John's wife Janet died at Freuchie in 1856 and is in the Falkland register.
Thanks again

Wow! That's fantastic Norrie. Four of my ancestors in one fell swoop! Many thanks indeed.
The son who erected the headstone must have been David, Alexander or James. I shall have to do some more delving to see if I can find to which one it might have been.
Back to my notes to see if I can find anybody else in Falkland.
many thanks again

Hi Norrie
As you seem to have information and photos from Falkland as well as Markinch, I wonder if you could look up another couple of people for me?
Janet GRANT, wife of John SUTTIE, died 4.12.1856 at Falkland (sorry, just re-read my initial post, and you say there is no listing for Janet and John).
John GALLOWAY died 19.1.1831 aged 76, wife Janet LAING at Falkland.
Robert GALLOWAY died 1.3.1858, aged 71, buried Falkland, wife Helen Piggies, died 1866, aged 81. Helen Piggies' father was John PIGGIES, mother Janet LUMSDEN.
Robert Galloway had a sister Magdelene born 1791 which I always thought might be a family name.
Photos would be great, but any mention would be a bonus.
Many thanks

Hi Ruth, from the people you have asked for info on I assume we are related! William David Brunton and Janet Campbell were my great great garndparents and I grew up in the Markinch area where my parents still farm so I know the area very well.
William Brunton d 31/7/1852 and his wife Jean Smart 1/3/1847, they are both in the 1841 census.
William Brunton d 15/4/1810 and Isobel Scot 26/5/1815
John Brunton POSSIBLY d 11/12/1758 at Forthar which is very close to the Star area but just inside Kettle parish so his death is recorded there.
Eupham Sim/Sime/Simb - no record at all as far as I can find of her death which is VERY annoying as going back 12 generations the two "facts" I still have to prove 100% are that the William B who m Isabel Scott was the son of John and Eupham and not another William whose birth is not recorded and that the John B who married Eupham had previously been married to Elspeth Beal. Finding a death for her in the Kettle/Cults/Kennoway/Markinch area (the area we're talking about is only a couple of square miles) would pretty much seal the tin lid on it for me!
The Bruntons and Campbells as well as several other families who lived in Star of Markinch in the second half of the 18th century were all very inter-related and Campbell descendants at one stage or another farmed an awful lot of the farms round about, including the one my parents have (quite by chance, it's my Mum who is a Brunton not my Dad!).
I have heaps of info if you would like it, also photos of William David/Janet and their children etc.
Best regards
Susan Dun

Hi Norrie,
Thanks so much for your quick reply. I'm not sure about the other names, I have just started helping my Mum with our family tree, we haven't done much yet.
I went to Thornton about 15 years ago (I live in Australia), and I went to a cemetery that was close by, do you know if St Drostan's is the closest to Thornton? I rang the information number that was listed at the cemetery entrance and they said that Robert and Anne Barclay were buried there and gave me the plot numbers but I couldn't find them, perhaps there were no headstones. I was a young backpacker at the time, so wasn't overly interested in family history and I didn't take note of the cemetery name or even take any photos. (Needless to say my Mum wasn't very impressed when I got home!) So I'm trying to help now!
Thanks again for checking.

Hi Norrie, Regarding St.Dr 845 my Aunt Elizabeth Patterson was married to an Alex Barclay and she died about 1998. Is this her or just a coincidence?

Hi Norrie,
Thanks so much for all of that information, I will have to sit down and have a good look through it all, I really appreciate it.
I don't recall being able to see the sea from the cemetery I went to and I've had a look at google earth and St Drostan's does look familiar, the layout, the main building and the entrance. Are your records just from headstones that you have photographed? I was thinking perhaps I could call the council department that has the cemetery records and confirm where they are buried. My Mum is currently in the UK on a 6 week holiday and will be in Scotland in a few weeks, hopefully I can figure it out so she can go the the cemetery while she's there.
Thanks again for all of the information.

Hi Norrie,
I am currently researching my family history and came across a burial/death record for Elisabeth Millar spouse of William Adamson (Milton of Balgonie).
Can you please check your records and see if you have an image of the headstone, should be in the st drostans old churchyard cemetery (if it helps the death record states 12 yds from southside and 4 yds from eastside.) she was interred 16th October 1805.
Any help is much appreciated.
Best Regards,

Hi Norrie,
Thank you very much for your help.
The information as I have it is as follows:
William Adamson
b. 9 Nov 1771 (Ceres)
m. Christian Young (4 January 1794)
m. Elisabeth Millar (1 November 1800)
d. Not sure - to tie in with the 1843 death he would have had to be born 1778 (there is a william adamson born 1778 in St Monace - how would I go about finding out which william I am looking for?)
Christian Young
b. 4 August 1775 (Largo)
m. William Adamson (4 January 1794)
d. 2 November 1800 (Ceres) Only 25 years old!
Elizabeth Millar (Elisabeth)
b. 5 February 1785 (Kennoway)
m. William Adamson (1 November 1800)
d. 16 October 1805 (Markinch) Only 20 years old!
Children
Catharine Adamson
b. 25 March 1803 (Markinch)
m. Never married, although had 5 Children (3 of which to my 4th Great Grandfather - William Forsyth 1790 - 1848).
d. 5 January 1871 (Markinch)
Didn't know anything about david until now.
Not sure if william married both christian and elizabeth or if this is a cross with more than one william adamson, how do you find out when the census wasn't recorded until 1841?
Best Regards,
Martin
-
Not sure if william married both christian and elizabeth or if this is a cross with more than one william adamson, how do you find out when the census wasn't recorded until 1841
the problem is I can't find a William Adamson in the 1841 census in Markinch
there one was buried in Markinch in 1843 stating he was from Milton
as was Elizabeth Millar who died in 1805
William & Elizabeth
their children Kathrine born 1803 is called after Elisabeths mother Kathrine Miles
so you would assume that David born 1805 is called after Williams father
I don't think there is any connection between the 2 Williams
William Adamson born 9.11.1771 Ceres parents George Adamson & Barbara Swan
When you look at his childrens names there are no George or Barbara
so I would not pick these as his parents
William Adamson born 1.11.1778 St Monance parents James Adamson & Elspeth Duncan
if it was this William then he must have only been 16 when he married Christian Young in 1794
again you say Christian Young died 2.11.1800 Ceres but you also say he married
Elizabeth Millar 1.11.1800, something wrong Christian was not dead yet.
William Adamson born 9.11.1771 Ceres parents George Adamson & Barbara Swan
When you look at his childrens names there are no George or Barbara
so I would not pick these as his parents
I would expect Williams father to be called DAVID after his first son
when you do a family search for William Adamson born 1776 to17782 in fife
with a father called David
name: William Adamson
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 21 Jan 1781
baptism/christening place: BEATH,FIFE,SCOTLAND
birth date: 15 Jan 1781
father's name: David Adamson
mother's name: Betty Brown
Remember the death for William 1843 Milton other than been
from Markinch Burials I don't know if its him
Catharine Adamson
b. 25 March 1803 (Markinch)
m. Never married, although had 5 Children (3 of which to my 4th Great Grandfather - William Forsyth 1790 - 1848).

From Family search all born in Markinch
Andrew Galloway 28.12.1815 still alive in 1881 Census age 65 in Thornton
Was looking for info on parents and or siblings of Great Great Grandfather Andrew Galloway (died Lochgelly 19 Dec 1897 80yrs old) On death certificate, father Thomas Galloway coalminer and mother Isabella Welsh. In all census records birthplace is Markinch. If 80 when died would make birth year 1817. Tho' parish record has that as when baptised and born as your findings in 1815! Maybe he was as confused as I about his birth!
If your and my Andrew are the same (and not Thornton one!) he was married to a Janet Christie and there's another mystery there! On death cert says married to Janet Christie and 'Previously to 'blank' Christie'.
In court case involving Andrew and Janet, she states that she and Andrew married 14/08/1848, (have seen record), but he already had 3 children. She then had 13! I have found an earlier record of a marriage in Nov 1840 between an Andrew Galloway, but it is also to a Janet Christie! Both Auchterderran Parish records.
When found parish record pre 1855 it lists children of Andrew and Janet between 1841 and 1854 but no mention of two different Janets!
Tho' I noticed 3 children were born between 1841 and 1846 which would be the 3 mentioned in newspaper report of case?
Don't know if with your experience you might have some ideas about a solution to this 'mystery'
trying to find more about Janet (Died 1911 aged 88 in Cowdenbeath),father Robert a bottle blower but no name for her mother...
Did she have a sister that Andrew may have married before, a coincidence they had same name or something else? The search continues!
Thanks anyway for your help!

Hiya,
Am looking for a Margaret Philp who was married to a Michael Philp. I see in Scotland's People there was a death for a Margaret Philp 23rd April, 1814, in Markinch...where I think her mother's people had lived...though the Philps actually had lived in St Andrews & St Leonards..
I may be totally off beam, & barking up the wrong tree...but am wondering if you could check it out for me please...& see if the headstone can clarify anything here?!
Thanks lots...& cheers,
Jesszgran
-
Hi Jesszgram sorry no headstone for a Michael Philp
what was Margarets Maiden Name and who were her Parents
when was Margaret Born ?
Norrie
-
Hi again Norrie,
Thanks for getting back!
Margaret was originally an Anderson (parents William & *Margaret) She'd have only been about 37'ish when she died. Michael - her widow - went on to re-marry...& think continued living in the St Andrews /St Leonards area.
(Margaret's *mother was originally a 'Pringle' from Markinch)
Cheers again,
Jesszgran

What a guy you are ... you must have some collection of images?
I have over 16,000 in 23 fife cemeteries
Hello Norrie,
I recently came across this post and wonder if you can help me. My great aunt Margaret Allan was born in 1870 in Cathcart Renfrewshire. She moved around a lot in her lifetime. In 1894 she married a Robert Marshall in New Monkland. In the 1901 census she and her family were in Falkirk Stirling. On 17 Nov 1953 she died at Kirkwood Cres., Crossford, Dunfermline. Her son Robert registered her death. I don't yet know when and where her husband died.
Kind regards, Nan

Hi Norrie, What a remarkable service you are providing. I hope you might be able to assist me with two children, interred in the same grave I believe, in 1825 and 1826. Information I have is from MARKINCH BURIALS, 1799-1854
http://www.fifefhs.org/Records/Markinch/markinchbc.htm
CLARK, HEUGH (8m): son of Nicoal Clark at Markinch; 5 Mar 1826; left side of sister, Mary Clark, interred 7 Jan 1825 (No 2 1825)
CLARK, MARY (5): dau of Nicoal Clark at Markinch; 7 Jan 1825
Any help would really be appreciated. Their parents Nichol Clark and Margaret Clark nee Dunbar left Scotland with all or most of their surviving children to settle in Australia in 1840. Nichol and Margaret died in Sydney NSW.
Many thanks for your work.

Hi there are no Rodger headstones in the area around Markinch Church
yes the may have been buried there but they did no raise headstones for the departed
headstones at that time cost a lot of money.
Northhall Cemetery in markinch was the next Cemetery to be opened
but still no Rodger stones in my index ,? who are you actually looking for,
Norrie

Hi Norrie
Thanks for looking anyway.
As you ask, I'm specifically looking for a David RODGER, shoemaker, of Scoonie who married Agnes DALRYMPLE of Markinch in Jan 1801. Agnes' dates are 1773 - 1849, but she died in Edinburgh so I doubt she's buried in Fife. I suspect David may be the Markinch burial below:
RODGER, DAVID (58): at Coaltown; 3 Nov 1840; in Dalrymple ground.
From IGI, there are two of David & Agnes' children whom I can't trace into the censuses:
Magdalene Rodger bapt 1813 Markinch
David Rodger bapt 1815 Markinch
So this Markinch burial is a possible candidate for David 1815 (and for an unknown younger sis also Magdalene):
ROADGER, DAVID (7): son of David Roadger, Coaltown of Balgonie; 17 Oct 1822; in grave of sister, Magdlone Rogar, interred 4 May 1808 (No 32, 1808), left side of David Dalrympll at Meetings, interred 29 July 1821 (No 35, 1821)
In fact I suspect the majority of those Rodger burials are relatives.
There's also a Scoonie burial that I was going to ask about, as a possible for the above Magdalene b1813:
1824 Rodger
At Leven on the 25th October died Magdalene Rodger and was buried on the 27th in the Church yard of Scoonie
I've found your Scoonie cemetery postings on other forums, but can't seem to find the right thread here. If you'd care to point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers

Hi Adagon sorry for taking so long to answer back, have included a photograph of Neil Ballingall stone
and
The IGI gives a marriage of a David Rodger to an Agnes Dalrymple Jan 1801 Markinch & Scoonie
ROADGER, DAVID (7): son of David Roadger, Coaltown of Balgonie; 17 Oct 1822; in grave of sister, Magdlone Rogar,
interred 4 May 1808 (No 32, 1808), left side of David Dalrympll at Meetings, interred 29 July 1821 (No 35, 1821)
RODGER, DAVID (58): at Coaltown; 3 Nov 1840; in Dalrymple ground,
Can,t find any Dalrymple ground with stone
head to feet of Rachel Ballingall, daughter of Neil Ballingall at Sweetbank,
interred 30 Oct 1839 (No 68, 1839)
There is a headstone for Neil Ballingall at Markinch Kirk churchyard
Neil Ballingall of Sweetbank 18.4.1943 age 93
also William Ballingall in Sweetbank wife Jessie Purdon Hunter 8.12.1846 age 28
but can,t say if Dalrymple ground and Ballingall ground are adjacent but could be
There's also a Scoonie burial that I was going to ask about, as a possible for the above Magdalene b1813:
1824 Rodger At Leven on the 25th October died Magdalene Rodger and was buried on the 27th in the Church yard of Scoonie
I have up to date photographs of headstones in Scoonie and there is nothing in the old part of the cemetery
for Magdalene Rodger

Hi Norrie - Many thanks for the extra research - at least we won't be looking through graveyards when we visit Markinch next year. Interesting that from your two sources the names match up but the dates don't. Family search has the best fit with our information about the younger David, who migrated to Australia in 1853.
Thanks again, Mollypip

Hi Norrie, looking for an Agnes Thomson 1856-1904, married a Joseph Henderson or Simpson. Potentially buried in North Hall Cemetery rather than St Drostan's. If you can't find her would you mind checking Auchterderran, Lochgelly or Beath? Thanks in advance.

John Philp was born 20 Feb 1781 in Markinch & died 4 March 1846 in Milton Balgonie, Fife. Catherine Henderson - Philp was born abt. 1780 in Newburgh, Fife & died 1851 also in Milton Balgonie, Fife. I just assumed that since all their children was baptized in Markinch and John being born there that John & Catherine could be buried there.

Hello Norrie,
Thank you for the headstone offer.
From what you have written earlier it sounds as if there are no headstone for John Galloway (died 1837) and Ann Watson (died 1828), but I would be grateful if you would confirm this.
The burial register on the Markinch church website mentions a "Galloway area" of the graveyard, but I'm not sure how John and Ann are connected to the other Galloways in the graveyard.
