I would be very grateful if anyone was able to decipher the names on the attached - they were the witnesses at the wedding of my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather at St James', Westminster in 1828. The second name looks like Susan something, but I am not sure.
Many thanks for any help

Could be Mc Vey
Looks like starts with Mc
Can you show more of the certificate, please?

Job (something)
Susan McEvoy.
Can we see the whole certificate on-line somewhere? as it's all in the same hand it may help with deciphering.

Could it be Bainbridge or Ballbridge?
-
Job Pattridge? Maybe Partridge or Palbridge.
Susan McEvoy is what I am seeing.

I think you're right that it is Susan McEvoy............ and the other definitely Job Somethingridge........... I shall have a go through Ancestry with the various surnames and see if anything comes us. I don't recognise it as a family name, so maybe just passers-by.................
Thank you all very much for helping.

I would guess Joel Paltridge,
& Susan McMoy or McNoy. The M on the Mc looks very similar to the first letter after it. ???

The second signature looked straightaway like Susannah Bradfield to me - but haven't got my glasses on ;D
Ooops - sorry! Looking at the wrong signature...now off to find my glasses ::)

Many thanks for all the ideas................ I shall work my through all the names, but I have a feeling they might not be family members; maybe friends? ???
I wonder why the bride and groom didn't sign their names themselves - I have the groom's daughter's entry in the marriage register and he signed then, so he could write.
Another puzzle >:(
Thank you again for all the help

Job's surname looks like [1st letter]albridge to me.

Ballbridge or Bainbridge would be my best guess.

I am quite sure that it is not Job - it is Joel. I assume you got the marriage off Ancestry - search for Joel Pal*idge, and you will find Joel Paltridge's marriage at St. Pancras in 1823. Joel Paltridge is also on the 1841 census in St. Martin in the Fields, very near Westminster.
For Susan's surname, I've changed my mind and agree with McEvoy. A Susan McEvoy married at Westminster in 1831, which is probably the witness on this marriage. She would probably be a friend of the bride's rather than family member, since they were married so close together.

Hi All!!
Thank you all again for helping - I think that Alexander has cracked it.... and saved me going through the Ancestry records! ;D
I shall have a look at Joel Partridge's marriage and census, and also at Susan McEvoy - just in case any of the names ring a bell.
Many thanks :)
