Evening,
Would anyone be kind enough to do a couple of lookups for me please?
I'm trying to locate one William Arnold on the 1841 and 1851 Census. The particulars in common for both are as follows:
Name: William Arnold (Although I'm wondering if his surname has been mistranscribed)
Born: c. 1801 (Thereabouts)
Trade: Either Porter/Barman/Victualler
Place of birth: Lancashire (possibly Speke or Arbury)
As for the 1841 Census, I anticipate he may be single, whereas on the 1851 Census, I am expecting him to have two sons; James and William (born c. 1843 and c. 1845 respectively). His wife, if there is one, may well be called Jane and they may well be in the Exchange ward of Liverpool, Great Crosshall Street area...
Any assistance appreciated thanks!

What information do you have for you to suggest his wife is Jane,
the only William I have found as yet marrying a Jane is in 1861,to late for yours,
do you have them in later census returns,

Trying to piece things together whilst waiting on an 1846 birth certificate for a William Arnold, born in Liverpool who is my great, great grandfather. His 1871 marriage certificate states that his father was also William Arnold, who was a Barman by trade.
Appear to have found him on the 1861 Census, widowed, and living with a brother named Joseph who was a Victualler by trade, living on Marlborough Street in Liverpool. His two sons on the 1861 Census (James and William) are Carters by trade, which ties in, as this was what my G,G Grandfather William was.
Perhaps jumping the gun regarding potential wife's name of Jane, so should be ignored!!
Working my way back from my Great grandfather; his son Henry (b. 1874), but have William for definite on the 1871 census living with his future wife (my g,G Grandmother) and her family.

Thanks. I had located this marriage a couple of years back, but for some reason had never chased it up.
In any case, I visited the RO after work this evening to check it, only to find that the majority of their marriage records, including, as is always the case, the period in which this record was grouped was destroyed when the church was bombed during WWII.
So, that rules out checking it for free...will have to order it from the GRO, so will wait to see what comes from the birth certificate enquiry/order I've made.
I seem to have located William's death though today...aged 80 in 1881, recorded in Liverpool, which ties in with the implied 1801 year of birth for the 1841 and 1851 Census returns I'm trying to locate.
