Title: BROMLEY - 1851 Census - Kirk Ireton - Please
Post by: aitch on Sunday 06 February 11 13:36 GMT (UK)
Is there SKS out there who would please be kind enough to take a look at the 1851 Census for George & Sarah BROMLEY,
who should appear with daughter Eliza (b 1848 Kirk Ireton) and Harriet (1850 Kirk Ireton).

Not sure of George's birth year or place, but it's his wife details I'm more interested in - and she (hopefully) should give a birthplace of Cotton/Colton/Alton, Staffs around 1826/7.

Many thanks
Aitch :)

 :) :) Thanks very much!
The most likely marriage I can find for this is to a Sarah RATCLIFFE in 1846.   Just need to try and see if such a lass exists in or around Calton.

Much appreciate the look up - thanks again :)

there is a likely one at the Parsonage Mayfield in 1841 wich is near enough.Reg dist is ashbourne which is Staffs Derbys border

next door are William Ratcliff 1789and wife ann 1787 who are both at Calton in Maydield Ashbourne in 1851 so seems a likely bet

There are a couple of Sarah Ratcliffes born 1826 in Calton on the IGI.  One the daughter of Richard and Sarah Ratcliffe.     How does she appear at the Parsonage in 1841?  I'm guessing she's a servant and not with family?       Working in Mayfield would seem logical as it's only a stone's throw from Calton and then going on to marry in Ashbourne dist figures too.

Is there any chance you'd have time to look up George Bromley (b 1818) in the 1841 - just in case he's moved a little closer than Kirk Ireton?    :)

Oooo.. the plot thickens...

The two Sarah Ratcliffes I found were daughters of either Thomas and Mary or Richard and Sarah, so William and Ann are news! :)

Thanks for pursuing this on my behalf  - I really do appreciate your help :)

Thanks very much.
Enjoy your lunch ;D

p.s. I have one of the two Sarahs (1825) from Calton on my tree already - parents Thomas Ratclifffe 1794 and Mary 1795.
Sarah isn' t with them in 1851, but I don't have details of the family from 1841, so don't know what happened to her.

The IGI throws up a marriage of a Sarah Ratcliffe to a Daniel Holmes in 1846 in Mayfield.

I un-subbed from Ancestry before Christmas in an attempt to cut down on my own research so I could give some time transcribing for FreeReg... beginning to wish I hadn't!!  Lucky to have folk like you around who're willing to help out with look ups!  ;D

Thanks very much for these.

I think a marriage cert is needed to pin down the parents of both Sarah and George for sure.

Thanks once again for your help on this one :)

Hello,
I am George and Sarah Bromleys gtgt grand daughter...and have been trying to find information about who Sarahs parents are for ages.Their daughter Charlotte was my Nana's mother.
George and Sarah were married Dec qtr 1846 at Ashbourne Register Office.
Georges parents are Richard Bromley and Ann Gardner married Kingswinford Staffordshire on 12 Oct 1807.
Sarah died of severve burns and shock from a house fire at oodlawirra in 1897 and is buried at the Dawson cemetery South Australia..I have photos of their graves if interested.George was born 1818 Jan Kirk Ireton Derbyshire and died Feb 1891.They came out to Australia on the Shackamaxon arriving on the 19 Jan 1853.
Hope some of the above is helpful. :)
