Title: Spring Farm, Delgany
Post by: saradelgany on Wednesday 09 February 11 16:52 GMT (UK)
Does anyone out there have any information regarding a place called Spring Farm in Delgany....My ggg grandmother lived there at the time of her marriage in 1850.....Not quite sure if it was an estate she may have been working on or the name of a village....

Thanks..

there's a townland named Springfarm in Co. Wicklow, but it appears to be near Redcross (not far from Arklow)

Is this detail from a civil marriage cert ?

If so the registration district details might help narrow down the right area..

Hi Sara,
I'm not yet sure where Spring Farm was or is in Delgany but there are many links to it.
William Joseph Corbet, MP and of the Home Rule League also good friend of Charles Stewart Parnell lived in Spring Farm, Delgany, until his death in 1909.
Google Spring Farm, Delgany and you'll find lots of interesting information.

here's a link to the OSI maps showing a Spring Farm, it seems to be a little south of Delgany in the townland of Kilquade

The 1901 census building return for the townland of Kilquade shows a William J. Corbett as the head of household and owner of site no. 1, but he is not shown on the household return for some reason...

I'm almost certain now, having looked at that map Shane that Spring Farm lies on the estate of Kilquade House.

Hi Sara,
I agree.  I'm sorry that I can't add anything more to this information as yet but I had relatives working at Kilquade House in the 1820s, so always looking for more information on this area.

It's on the back road from Pretty Bush to Kilquade. Very close to the holy well near Kilquade church. The buildings are still standing. You can't miss them when driving / walking on the road. Not sure who owns the place at the moment or what they are using it for. I don't have any pictures.

I also have GGG's who worked at Spring Farm.  Michael Connor was a gardener. Married to Maria Meara/Maher, daughter Alice who  married Patrick Doyle and came to US.  Any connections would be great!
