Title: James LYNCH and Jane HEAVEY family in Lexilip 1870-90's
Post by: PJWELLS on Friday 11 February 11 13:09 GMT (UK)
James LYNCH ( a gardener )and Jane HEAV(E)Y ( probably both from Meath) lived in Leixlip ,Kildare from 1870 ish probably until 1900's.
We know they had the following children
Catherine/Kate Josephine b 1869 ( Meath we think) but possibly baptised in Leixlip - married a British soldier William CHILDS in Dublin and eventually migrated to Wandsworth and had 11 children.
Christopher b 1870 - ?
Margaret b 1872 - married Thomas MULLALLY and migrated to Huddersfield 1911 - 1920's with their 3 children.
Patrick b 1874 - ?
Jane b 1876 - ?
Mary b 1878 - ?
Bridget b 1880 - ?
Anne b 1883 - ?
James had died by 1891, and Jane was alive in 1911.
Do you recognise any of these people in your tree ?

There are records for several of the children in the extracted births collection on Familysearch - including Kate/Katherine (see : this link (https://www.familysearch.org/s/search/index/record-search-advanced#searchType=records&fed=true&collectionId=1584963&advanced=true&givenName=&surname=lynch&eventType=birth&birthLocation=&birthYear=&range-birthYear=1&relationship=parents&fatherFirst=james&fatherLast=&motherFirst=jane&motherLast=heavey&filtered=true) )

 Name: Kate Lynch
 Birth Date: 30 Oct 1869
 Father's Name: James Lynch
 Mother's Name:  Jane Heavey
 Reference Number: v 17-1 p 473

There's no birthplace mentioned but the reference numbers (volume & page numbers) can be used to locate the correct civil reference :

 Name: Kate Lynch
 Registration district: Celbridge
 Event type: Birth
 Year: 1869
 Volume:17 /  Page: 473

The registration district of Celbridge covers townlands in counties Kildare and Dublin, plus a few in Co. Meath. A birth cert would show further details like the exact place of birth.

Details included on a Birth Cert (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,433041.0.html)

p.s. have you found Jane on the 1901 and/or 1911 census returns ?

thanks Shane, yes i have only recently discovered most of the relevant records on the pilot IGI site, having previously used the Irish Roots site that has the searchable database and pay per view basic transcript that we viewed of the baptism. The birth certificate is obviously the next thing to order, but probaly won't reveal any more detail than we know from the baptism.
We are specifically interested in the rest of the family, that may lead to soeone who knows even more of James and JANE.
Jane was indeed located on the 1901 census with daughter Maggie and husband Thomas MULLALLY, to be honest that was the major find, because Aunt Mags was really the ONLY one of the siblings we knew about by name, including her husband. We did hit the jackpot there!!
In 1911 we assume we have also found her living on her own.
Catherine always said she was born in Leixlip 31-10, but I think that may not be the case.

I had a search for possible marriages or James and Jane, but didn't see anything promising.

What county does Jane list as her place of birth on the census returns ?

Title: James LYNCH and Jane HEAVEY family in Lexilip - update
Post by: PJWELLS on Saturday 24 March 12 17:57 GMT (UK)
It is likely that
James LYNCH died in1889 in Celbridge Reg District.
Jane LYNCH died 1925 age 86 in Celbridge Reg district.
From the the Valuation books and Cancellation Books of Leixlip
Jane lived at 5 & 6 Mill Lane Leixlip from 1905 - 1925.
The following LYNCH's  are related to James , and possibly brothers, living in Leixlip.
Patrick born circa 1839 died in Leixlip 1926.( viewed at Confey cemetry )
Bryan living in Collinstown 1850 - 1885.
Michael living in Leixlip 1862 - 1874.
And possibly James father -Bernard born 1806 died 1879 and his wife Julia born 1806 died 1882.
From the Kildare Observer Sept 1st 1883 -Christopher LYNCH born 1870 died 29-8-1883 age 13 after falling into a wheat store and suffocating. Believed to be James and Jane's son.

I lived all my childhood and a good portion of my adulthood in Leixlip and I remember two Lynch brothers living in a lovely little cottage in Mill Lane. Their names were Christy and Martin, they were elderly men when I was a teenager and that's a right few years ago!!! I'd say though that they are related to your family. Sams Mam

Having recently re-visited this family I have found the birth registration of another son of Patrick, who was the eldest son of James and Jane.
His name was Martin, born in 1913, brother of Christopher Bernard LYNCH.
Who is believe to be the grandson who was the informant on James death registration.

So this dies tie up with sams mam’s recollections. Certainly Christopher was in 5 Mill Lane in 1941, and in 3 Mill Lane 1944 to 1967.

The significance of Christopher 2nd forename as Bernard, does suggest a family link to the Bernard  mentioned in this posting.

Indeed, that site now has quite few records that can be uploaded, unfortunately not the death entry for James Lynch aged 50 in 1889.
I have quite figured out how to order the cert from 1889 yet! I managed to get Jane’s Back  in 2012.

From https://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html

If you have the GRO Index reference/Group Registration ID, you can order a 'research copy' of the bmd registration for just €4 from GRO Roscommon or any local registration office in the Republic of Ireland.

Download form from

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/images/content/www.genealogy.ie_form.doc

Do not ask for a  'research copy'  as there is no such thing  you need a 'photocopy of original Cert'

If you are in Ireland then any Registry Office across Ireland can print a copy there and then!

Excellent, thank you for the heads up!
The marriage of James to Jane Heavey is still not coming up on any index, the James Lynch marriage #577 from early 1869 Cellbridge appears to tie up with an Elizabeth.... but worth checking to see if there is an error when I can view it.

Re James LYNCH = Jane HEAVEY marriage.
This is bit of a coincidence, so will be looking at this marriage , hopefully when the Registration document is available.
In Kilcloon, Co Meath , the Reg district where Jane was born!
January 12th 1869, the marriage of James LYNCH and Jane SHERRY .The actual church record is viewable on the Catholic Parish at the NLI microfilm 04177/09 page 13 and it is open to interpretation , but this is so close to the the structure of the name HEAVEY/ HEAVY. On Ancestry there is clearly a hand written transcript of this entry, that also uses SHERRY as the interpretation.

In terms of time line, Jane gave birth to Kate on 31st  Oct 1869 nr Leixlip , Kildare, the entry says they were in Kilcurragh, but I am not sure exactly where this is.
The witness names are difficult to interpret, perhaps looking at the actual document might help to resolve the entry.
I would welcome any thoughts on this.

I little bit of a disappointment following the updated of Civil Records registration documents on the IrishGenealogy.ie site this week.
Despite being sure there was a corresponding entry in 1869, there is no corresponding registration document for the marriage of
James LYNCH to Jane SHERRY/HEAVEY.
Further research has identified the problem.
Of the 45 marriage entries ( transcription  ) in the Kilcloon, Batterstown And Kilcock Parish from  1864 to 1873, the following are found in the GRO database.
All 11 entries 1871 , 72 and 73 are there.
Only 2 entries of the other 34 marriage records., one in Batterstown 1864 the other in 1865 in Kilcloon.
Whether this is representative of the whole database I am not sure, certainly you might not expect anywhere near 100% of records successfully surviving the transcription / record collation.
GRO quite that overall , in the early years national from 1863  15% of births and marriages were not registered.
I have provided the GRO with all the data including the various ref numbers in case this can help identify additional records lurking in the archive, not incorporated into their index.
So my search for James LYNCH parents remains with the clues I have from the various docs ,
Possibly son of Bernard and a Julia who died in Leixlip.
Possibly from Co Carlow based on the place name recorded on daughter Kate’s bapt entry as Killcarig.
