Title: Martin D Kenney
Post by: feathercrush on Saturday 12 February 11 20:34 GMT (UK)
I've been doing some research into my ancestors, and of course being Irish is impossible for an amateur to research. So, I'm hoping some of you can work your magic and help me out, now that I've hit a seemingly dead end.

Information I have (although I'm not sure its 100% reliable)

Martin D Kenney
Birth: Jan 1820 in Queens Co. (Laois)
Marriage: 1848 to Bridget Larkin
Death: 19 Oct 1895 in West Bend, WI

No idea on the source of photograph.

Now, here's the tricky part, and the source of my dead end. It has been stated that his father was Patrick Kenney (1789-1855), mother was Elizabeth (1795-?)

If anyone could help me with some verifiable information so I can continue up the Kane family tree, it would be most appreciated!

...how I've gotten here so far...

Marshall Kane (1921-) son of
Thomas Joseph Kane (1890-1963) son of
Michael Kane (1857-1933) son of
Martin D Kenney (1820-1895)

Rather disappointing if it ends so abruptly. I'm so conflicted on even what to adopt for a coat of arms.

The two details you need to know when researching records before the start of civil registration are the family religion and where they lived at the time - i.e. parish, town or townland.

It's worth noting that few parishes have records before 1800.

In a developing twist, I am now led to believe that Patrick Kenney has no relation to Martin Kane, that it was a false positive from someone else's search. I also have come to believe that Martin was staying in Surrey, lodged with Bridget Larkin's father, does anyone know of a good reference to search English marriage records from this time period?

Did you ever have any success figuring out who Martin Kenneys parents are?
