Do you have even approximate years of birth and/or marriage for George ?

A marriage cert is usually the best place to start you search, as that will give you his father's name and occupation and help confirm and births you find.

see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

There's a possible marriage for George in 1956 :

 Name:   George McLean
 Registration district: Rathdrum
 Event type: Marriage
 Quarter and year:   Oct-Dec 1956
 Volume : 2 / Page : 327

The registration district is correct for Arklow.

see the following topics for details on marriage certs :

McLean is not a very common surname in Co. Wicklow so not that many registrations. Here's a few possible links that might be worth following up once you confirm George's father's name.

Possible birth for George :

 Name:   George McLean
 Registration district: Rathdrum
 Event type: Birth
 Quarter and year: Jan-Mar 1922
 Volume : 2 / Page : 684

There's also a marriage for another George McLean the year before Georges birth - possibly his father ?

 Name: George Alexander McLean
 Registration district: Rathdrum
 Event type: Marriage
 Quarter and year: Oct-Dec 1921
 Volume : 2 / Page :   807

Also a possible death for the same person :

 Name: George Alexander McLean
 Registration district:   Rathdrum
 Event type: Death
 Quarter and year: Oct-Dec 1944
Age : 60     (est. year of birth 1884)
 Volume : 2 / Page : 544

And also a possible listing for George snr on the 1911 census :

McLean / Leech household, Upr Tinahask St, Arklow (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wicklow/Arklow_Urban_No__1/Tinahask_Street_Upper/895028/)

This George lists his place of birth as Dublin City ... and there' is also a possible listing for him on the 1901 census at Drumcondra North Dublin :

 McLean household - 1901 (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Drumcondra/Drishogue__Millmount_Ave_/1271823/)

I'm not sure you can visit the Roscommon office - it's mainly for orders of certs by post.

The research room is in Dublin (Irish Life Centre, Abbey St) - see the top of this page on their website :  http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

on the 1911 census Sophia indicates that she has been married about 16 years, which would put the year of marriage about 1895

Sophia and all the children are Wicklow born.

There's only a small number of William Cotton marriages on the BMD Index between 1893 and 1897 and just one in Co. Wicklow :

  Name: William Cotton
  Registration district: Rathdrum
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Jul-Sep 1895
  Volume : 2 / Page : 801

The registration district of Rathdrum covers quite a large part of the county, but does include the town of Arklow. The is a cross-matching reference in the index (same registration district, year/quarter, volume and page numbers) for a Sophia Tutty. A marriage cert will show the full details.

thanks shane, very helpful, will try and get marriage cert.and work from there, what census would i find frances moorhouse nee agar birth.it would go back to approx 1851.are agars acommon name?
william tutty no 2 templerainey, kilbride co wicklow age 72, in 1901census,william tutty no 6 templerainey, kilbride, co wicklow age 77 in 1911 census.he died 20-12-1911 age 82 on his headstone.his birth is between 1829 and 1834.besides the griffiths valuation is there any other census that i could find his birth more accurately.i think he was 38when he got married circa 1873,also are they going to release the 1926 census this year? thank you all for your help tom

....
1) what census would i find frances moorhouse nee agar birth.it would go back to approx 1851.
...
2) are agars acommon name?
...
3)  william tutty......died 20-12-1911 age 82 on his headstone.his birth is between 1829 and 1834.besides the griffiths valuation is there any other census that i could find his birth more accurately.
....
4) are they going to release the 1926 census this year?
...

1. There are no surviving census returns before 1901

2. Eager/Agar does not seem to be a common surname. There are a few in Wicklow on Griffiths and also neighbouring counties Kilkenny and Carlow.

3. To find early details for William you would need to research  parish records. To do this you would need to establish which parish he was born in. His marriage cert should include his father's name and occupation which could help you locate him on Griffith's and give you a possible location for William's baptism

4. The 1926 census is closed for 100 years, so currently not due for release until 2026.

apparently William was a plumber.

On the 1901 census (see link (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wicklow/Arklow_Urban_No__1/Tinahask_Street_Upper/895028/)) George gives his place of birth as Dublin c1885, but I'm not seeing any good matches for him at the moment on the Birth Index as George or George Alexander.

I would say Harolds Crop is a typo or misreading of Harold's Cross in Dublin

The Irish Genealogy wesbite only has CofI records for Co. Kerry, Co. Carlow and parts of Dublin City and county at the moment.

That certainly fits with the occuation you have for William on George's marriage, and could also fit with George being born in Dublinas per the census returns.

link to the record : Marriage of William McLean & Dorah Leech - 22 Feb 1869 (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/52bc070901055)
Parish is St. Marks, Church of Ireland

Baptism of a possible brother to Dorah Leech :

  Thomas Leech - 1 April 1849 (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/4a40c40508563)
Parish is St. Nicholas Within, Church of Ireland

Father's name is also William and has the same occupation of Shoemaker as Dorah's father on the marriage record you found.
