Title: Juan Tonkin Chilean Civil Engineer

Am looking for any info or where I could find a photo of Juan Tonkin who was born in Bolivia but lived in Chile in 1875. I understand he was a well known civil engineer and was an Associate of American Civil Engineers and an Associate of the Company J.G.White of New York in the 1920's

found this by Googling John Ford Tonkin: seems that Juan was actually Thomas Juan Tonkin.

I think Thomas was a second surname, not a first name.  It's common in Latino countries to also use the mother's surname.

Thanks Shellyesq ... I was just actually thinking that as I see a lot of articles on him as Juan Tonkin.

Umm Have just noticed Juan was born 1875 not 1895  ;D

Juan Tonkin was born in Chile and was Baptised in 1880 in Mylor Church when his parents were back in Cornwall for a couple of years. His parents were John Ford Tonkin and Julia Thomas, hence Juan Thomas. He married a Julia Duble and had a son Paul who was born around 1911ish.

I was just confused for a while about his DOB .

I have googled all over and have yet to find a photo of him. I was hoping there would be something in the Australian papers ... no luck.
