I have been told Cholera victims were buried in Beckett St Cemetery.I have 3 missing Tolson relatives, all infants, one died 1850 age 3 months,2nd died at 8 months and 3rd at 14 months old.I don't have names but mother was Annie Tolson nee Gibson, father was Benjamin Tolson. They were living in Hunslet Leeds 1850-1855. Is there any way to find their names so I can continue with my research

Hi and welcome to Rootschat
If you don't know their names - where did you get the information about their ages when they died?
Have you checked freebmd for likely entries? The problem with deaths prior to the mid-1860's is that the GRO index does not show the age when they died. This makes it difficult to determine the right entiy if there is more than one possibility
Apart from 1850 - what years did the others die?

Hi,Thanks for your reply
I have a copy of my Gt Gt Grandmother's autobiography "Annie, the drunkard's daughter, being a faithful account of the life, experience & labours of Annie Tolson the Yorkshire & lancashire Revivalist" published in 1867; She mentions the deaths of 4 children and their ages, but only names one,a son Redan b.18/10/1855 when she had moved to Liverpool;he died there in 1857.I thought it strange not to mention the names of the others,All she said was they were all girls.

Hello Liz. I have checked Beckett Street Cemetery. There are a couple of Tolsons but not sure they are yours. Is the unmarried Benjamin Tolson on 1851 Census yours? If he is then these children cannot be yours. These are the only 2 children in your time frame that are buried at Beckett Street.
Emma Tolson / 3yrs / died 1852
Robert Tolson / 4 yrs / died 1852

Liz, meant to say those checks I did above were for the Municipal Registers. I have finished checking the Parish Registers (as transcribed so far) and there is 1 entry.
Anne Elizabeth Tolson of Cankerwell Lane, Leeds, buried 30 Sep 1855 age 1, St Mark Woodhouse

Ben is married & on 1851 Census with wife Annie,Hunslet St Mary Parish,he is 25 & she is 21,no children mentioned
-
Lizmik - just a cautionary note. There were a number of Tolson families living in Leeds in 1851 and a couple in Hunslet
You need to investigate further to determine if any of the children above are the right ones - the ages you gave in your opening post do not match these entries
Ann Elizabeth's birth was registered in the June qtr 1854 in Dewsbury so she was born prior to 30.6.1854. Burial 30.9.1855 makes her over 14mths which was the oldest age at death

Liz, unless I am mistaken, you have already been given all the details of those children on YorkshireIndexers - or did you forget to go back and check?? They are buried in Hunslet

Hi Liz,
Welcome to YI.
Hunslet Cemetery burials.
Emily Tolson dau of Benjamin buried 20th January 1850 aged 3 months. Grave number 4205 general section
Louisa Tolson dau of Benjamin buried 28th December 1851 aged 7 months. Grave number 4191 general section.
Angelina Tolson dau of Benjamin buried 18th March 1854 aged 1 year. Grave number 4321 general section.
Their ages meaning that they were 'outside' the census date for 1851. (The United Kingdom Census of 1851 recorded the people residing in every household on the night of 30 March 1851)

I have just found another child,Theophilus John E Tolson, born May 1868,Oldham Lancashire; died around August 1868 age 3 months. This information was from Annie Tolson's autubiography;she does not state where the child was buried but 3 of her other children are in Hunslet cemetery,is it possible to check if he is there? I have checked Toxteth Cemetery records as another son is listed there (Redan Tolson d.1857) but no trace of Theophilus.
