i have just received details of a grave in glasnevin.Iwas looking for a patrick deegan and trying to figure out if this was my relation. There are 6 names in the grave .None of them are connected to each other and all death dates are the same month and the same year.It also has union order or dublin union on them.Does anyone have any idea what this means.Surnames in grave are Deegan,Malone,Brennan,Devine,Mc Hughand Kerley.

probably refers to the workhouse of the North Dublin Union, which was on Nrth. Brunswick Street

yes but what im trying to figure out is why they were all buried together with the same death date?
-
Is the extended record available? This might give cause of deaths, ages etc. Could be an epidemic of flu, ora group of elderly people dying around the same time. Is the owner of the Grave given as the Dublin Union Workhouse?
-
Thanks for replying.Igot the extended version and 2 of the six names have Dublin Union and the third one says Union Order and the other 3 have adressess in Dublin and no cause of death .Any ideas?
-
Is Patrick Deggan one of the Union ones or does he have an address?
-
Patrick Deegan has an address of 61 Cork Street and Union Order underneath that and he is the first name on the page. Thanks again for your time .It has me baffled.

Its probarly a paupers grave they didnt have the money to bury their loved ones. The graveyard could have one or two graves open at a time and whoever dies in that period is buried in one of these graves...
Just my idea on why you have all different names in the one grave. My GGrandfather is buried the exact same way in Glasnevin

There was a Fever Hospital in Cork St for several decades. It was still in use in 1921. Don't know the number, but it is possible he died a pauper there, hence the Union Ref. PM

i thought as much but do you think that means that his home address was not Cork Street but the place he died in .Last known address i have for him is Nicholas Avenue in 1911 cencus, and i live near Glasnevin so could i find out from them what he died from do you think..Also i would like to put up these other names to maybe help someone else, what section do i put it in Thanks for your help :)

One option you have, if you have reason to think he is the right one, is to get the death cert. Do the Glasnevin Records give an exact date of death?
As you live in Dublin, this is easy. The GRO office is just beside Bus Aras. That should give the age at death, as should the Glasnevin info, so you can cross check with the census.
Who were his parents on the census? I find it helps here to give as much info as you have, as often other relatives are searching too.

Sorry, missed your kindly thought there about putting up info about the other people in the grave. One way is to type out some info here, Full names, dates, plot no etc, and then if people are using Google they can go on to get the full record themselves.

You can see from this that this type of burial was quite usual in Glasnevin.
