I am trying to locate some ancestors - George Mitchelll and his wife Elizabeth Wallace.
They were married at Dundee on 20 Dec 1867.
The marriage certificate states his parents were- Alexander Mitchell and Jane Hay and her Parents were George Wallace and Agnes Wilkie.
I believe they had a large family , unfortunately I can only find a few of the names of the children and nothing else -
the few children that I have found and believe are theirs are - George Wallace Mitchell (b 1868), James Stratton Mitchell (b 1870),
Alexander Kay Mitchell (b 1872), Agnes Mitchell (b 1880), and Faraday Wallace Mitchell (B 1883).

Thanks that great - yes George Mitchell was a Butchers Assistant according to his marriage certificate
His daughter Agnes married my Great Uncle - but I have been banging my head against the wall trying to find out more about George and his children - so your help really is appreciated- thanks again - Luc.

Where did you find the info about George being a butcher by trade and about Elizabeth and William, I have just looked at the igi and did not find it there -?
I believe one of the Mitchell daughters married a man called Macready - who later had a daughter called Agnes Mitchell Macready according to an old post card my mother had.

Found some information on George Wallace Mitchell the eldest son and little bits about most of the other children except for-
Charles Noyes Mitchel, born c1874 Dundee,
Elizabeth Mitchell, born c1878 Dundee,
William Mitchell, born c1876 Dundee,
Agnes Wilkie Mitchell, born c1879 Dundee,
and Faraday Wallace Mitchell, born c1883 Dundee,
So any help regarding this children would be a huge help

Found a birth on SP for Charles Noyes Mitchell b.223 Hilltown, Dundee Father George Mitchell and Mother Margaret Wallace born 31 Jan 1874 in the Dist. St. Andrew in the Burgh of Dundee.

George Croal Mitchell married Mary Ann Petrie on the 10th Jan 1890 st Whitehall St.,( Dist. St. Clement,) Dundee .
He was 45 a Butcher and widower living at 74 Ferry Rd., Dundee Mary Ann was 28 of 158 Strathmartine Rd., Dundee. Their marriage was by Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Forfarshire dated 10 Jan 1890.
Have a b irth certificate for a Daniel Cameron Mitchell born 10 Oct 1900 parents George Croal Mitchell and Mary Ann Petrie.
This seems to be the family on the 1901 Census

Found a death for George Mitchell son of Alex. Mitchell dec. and Jane Keay he died at 8 Ferry Rd., Dundee on the 10th Aug 1910 married 1st Elizabeth Wallace and 2nd Mary Petrie.

Some of your Mitchells have really unique names - so no problems finding them.
In all of Scotland there are only 2 deaths between 1855 and 2009 for a Charles Noyes Mitchell
I would imagine that one is the son of the other.

2 1986 MITCHELL CHARLES NOYES Not Permissible M 77 DUNDEE DUNDEE CITY/DUNDEE CITY 350/00 0194
and in the same time frame there is only one Faraday Wallace Mitchell dying.
1 1921 MITCHELL FARADAY WALLACE M 37 POSSILPARK GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/07 0291
To really progress your family history - although I'm sure that others here will be able to get you information, it is advisable to register at the government website at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Free to register but a ppv site with a min. spend of £6. For that you can download bmds and census records - copies not transcriptions. Currently this would allow for 5 downloads. As the 2 gentleman above have unique names it should be easy to find out if they married - and Scottish records give a wealth of information.. The search then continues..

Thanks for the advise I will check out what is available on this site - although I was told that it does not work with windows 7, something to do with difficulty downloading and printing their documents. I think I should find out for myself -maybe if there was a problem it has been fixed by now - I hope so!

Hi Luc,
There is no problem that I am aware of with viewing documents on SP via Windows 7.
One thing that often helps with downloads is what setting you have on your preferences to view images from there.
It is free to register on the site (you only have to buy units to view search results or images). This is the registration page for SP www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/users/registration.aspx Under the section Application Options/ Image Viewer, choose 'Direct Download'. This works very well for most systems :)

Hi I’ve just seen this. George Mitchell was my great grandfather on my mother’s side. Her father Edward was born to George’s second wife Mary Petrie. My grandfather Edward married my Grandmother Margaret Byers they had two children, my mum Margaret and her elder sister Mary. I still keep in touch with Mary Mitchell’s ((Edwards sister) daughter Doreen age 87 (my mum’s cousin) who lives in Pittsburg PA. Doreen remembers quite a bit from their time in Broughty Ferry Road Dundee.
