I'm curious about Black Brook, was it a house or a street? Researching my ancestors and they lived there in the 1841 and 1851 census. Thanks

Hi
There were no streets as such in rural Wales during this time period. The name is most likely to be a cottage or a farm or possible even a pub - especially if in English.
Can you please provide census references for the family and location in 1841 and 1851?

Thank you! Thats what I thought but wasn't sure.
1841
Black Brook, Gwysaney,
Mold. Flintshire, Wales
Thomas Hughes b 1806 Agriculture Laborer
Mary b 1811
Robert b 1860
John b 1832
Mary b 1834
Thomas b 1836
I misplaced the 1851 census and can't find them but I know I've seen it.

Hi
From looking at the 1841 (reference H107/piece 1410/district 5/folio 10/page 14) it looks like Black Brook was three households away from Gwsaney Hall which was enumerated just before the quarry.
On the current Ordnance Survey map Gwsaney is spelled Gwysaney.

Thank you!! I did find the 1851 census saved it to my tree this time.

Black Brook is a country lane that runs from Mold to the village of Sychdyn.
-
The c1870 OS map appears to confirm what both Heather and Jeffro said. There appear to be three properties, one on the east side of the lane and two on the west.

The road sign outside the pub is Blackbrook.

I had family from there at that time and Rhyd y goleu. Your family Would probably have known them and as they were Agricultural laborers probably worked together etc. How weird is that. Im just doing that part of the family now...i assume it was all estate. I go there often if you need pictures.
