I noted Co 95 has George Sinclair and Helen L Sinclair and wonder if they also might be related to me, so could I ask for their inscriptions too?
Many thanks,

Hey, Norrie. What a man!
Yes, these are my relations, and George is apparently the youngest child of James Sinclair and Catherine Gourlay. I had no record of him.
I really would appreciate photos of the headstones, that would be marvellous.
You're very kind.

Hi, Norrie
Thanks a million for the photos. I'm very grateful to you.
That must be quite a collection you have there - and a system to match! I'm highly impressed.
Best wishes
Jim
-
Hello again, Norrie
I got so excited about the two photos I missed your second message. Thanks for that too. Yes, I'd like a
photo of the Gourlay stone, if it isn't too much trouble.
There must be a whole bunch of my relations buried in Collessie. I guess I'll have to make the 560 mile round trip to look. I take it that the yard is in good order.
Thanks again

Dear Norrie, Pleased to have found your site (now new member). I am interested in the Robert Clark grave (no:178) as he appears to be a candidate as the 8th generation forefather of my Clark (male line) ancestory. A family of Clarks (3 generations within) were living at Collessie 1740-80 I believe, burying a few infants in the cemetery, according to the records I have seen.
I would be very grateful for a picture of the grave if you could. Thanks,
Scott26

Hello Norrie,
Thankyou for the inscription info and the photo.
Robert Clark who " . . was interred here in the family burial ground" adds to the mystery a bit. Records that I've looked at suggest 6 more Clarks were buried in the cemetery between 1740 and 1770. Is there an older section to the cemetery or has the evidence (gravestones and markers) been lost in time?
Would appreciate any feedback on this if your able to. Thanks again.
-
Hi Scott you must remember that all that were buried were
not listed on a stone or they even had a stone,
the clarks in Collessie stone dates 1835 so any children who died
before that date even though buried there may not be listed.

Hello Norrie,
Thanks for your info. This is not the Robert Clark I was after, but seems to suggest a second family (brothers perhaps) sharing a common forefather or source.
Other Clark burials in the cemetery are William Clark and his son William a week apart on the 10th and 17th of February 1740. Two lots of morte cloth dues were paid.
Jean Clark who died and presumed buried there in 1794 is recorded as the mother of two infants who died 2/6 and19/6 1769, though the register shows the second as evidence in a money-accounting page rather an actual death. Sadly she was the only one in a long column that did not pay for the morte cloth.
My fore-father Robert Clark was born in 1792 up the road in the Newburgh Parish, and his father Robert
(a Tailor) was a Collessie boy according to his 1789 Newburgh marriage certificate.
It doesn't fit the 1775 birth of Robert Clark d. 1847 who lies beneath the only Clark gravestone in the cemetery, as he would only have been 14 when he got married -unlikely and foolish! Thanks again Norrie

Thank you very kindly. I'm doing a one-name study of my maiden name Powrie, and didn't have all their children, nor their burial place.

Hi Norrie
Thanks so much for those photos and inscriptions - they all belong to my tree. Also, I see you have included one more Muckarsie so I will see where he fits in and there is some extra information I can work on now.
The 3 Douglas brothers, John David and William are all brothers of my great great grandmother Mary Dougas who married Richard Muckarsie. I have Richard dying 28.12.1849 in Collessie and Mary 3.06.1877 also in Collessie. They were not listed on your Cemetery lists so I didn't ask about them before but I was wondering if you do have them. Maybe they are buried in the old part of the graveyard or don't have a headstone if you don't.
Thanks so much again for your efforts

Hi Leslie sorry nothing for the above couple in Collessie Cemetery
inscriptions in the cemetery go back to the late 1700s
the other Muckersie inscription is form a stone next to Annes stone
John Muckersie born 1857 Auchtermucty parents George Muckersie
& Elizabeth Stevenns listed on Family search
Norrie
-
Hi Norrie,
Thanks for checking Mary Douglas and Richard Muckarsie for me. I got the death certificate for John Muckarsie - he never married and was living with his sister, Ann and her husband Kenneth McKenzie from 1891 to 1911 Census probably till they died.
Have you a Margaret Muckarsie b. 1836 in Collessie in any of you records? She is the daughter of Richard and Mary above. She gave birth to my great grandfather, James in 1859 in Edinburgh - his birth certicate shows him as Muckarsie and illegitimate but the family always knew him as James Mowat. I have not been able to find James in the 1861 or 1871 Census but then he appears as James Mowat in 1880 marrying Jane Smart in Collessie, listing John Mowat as his father. Margaret is a complete mystery. I have not found her in any Censuses and any deaths and marriages for Margaret Muckarsie do not seem to fit.
Kind regards
Leslie Haynes
Even on James' death certificate no parents are listed.
-

Hi Leslie, Richard Muckersie is my great, great, great, grandfather's brother. David Muckersie (1819-1896) is my direct ancestor. I am new to this site and have been researching my family tree for past few months. If I come across any info on Margaret Muckersie I will let you know. I have details of Richards parents (Michael Muckersie and Euphemia Forbes) but thats as far as Ive gone back so far. Did you end up finding the gravestone of Richard or Mary? Btw I live in South Australia. I know about Margaret's brother David Muckersie who married Lizzie Kellow died 24.12.1886 from gastritis at 42yrs, death certificate says died in Ladybank Collessie.
