Title: James Duncan Connell
Post by: SandyMal on Tuesday 26 April 11 08:28 BST (UK)
Hi Everyone, I have started to investigate the early life of my grandfather. James died in 1961 in Melbourne Australia.
Are there any Connells on this forum?
Cheers
Sandy

Diddy, I will have to find where I put the papers I do have. I know he was born in Dollar and he and his brother found it best if they went to Australia!
Cheers

sibling:

Connell Connell 8/2/1907 Dollar
same parents

SP has other possible siblings but you will need to buy credits to view records. there is a Reida, female - maybe sister as mother has Reid as maiden name!!

Is it possible that Christian's maiden surname was LATTA rather than LATTAR?

If so, it looks like she's listed on a gravestone in Dollar Churchyard/Cemetery, date of death 4th December 1924 age 67 (born c1857). There is also a John Connell listed, his date of death is listed as 22nd May 1913 age 59 (born c1854).

Have a wee look: www.memento-mori.co.uk (Dollar Cemetery & Churchyard, Nos. 60 & 61 on the index).

hi Anne - yes could be them. the maiden name was very unclear on the bap.

I did not check further back than James (1894) bap - ie marriage of john & Christian

In 1871, 15 year old Christina Latta is living in Dollar.

Dear knows what the family have been transcribed as on Ancestry!!

I didn't have enough credits left to download the image, just to do a check.

The criteria is used was as follows:

You searched for: Surname: "latta"; Surname Option: Exact; Forename: "christina"; Forename Option: Variations; Sex: "Female"; Age From: 12; Age To: 17; Year: 1871;

Gros. Ref: 467/00  001/00 005

Hi James Duncan Connell was my great great Uncle. My grandfather was William Connell born Dollar 1905 son of Connell Connell who was James Duncan's older brother. Is anyone still following this line as I am currently doing a lot of work on my ancestors and keen to see what others have found cheers
