Looking for info on Myrnie Ann Carewickham. Died in Melbourne 1931/32. I have no info on her family ie: mother, father siblings. she died aged 32.

Is a bit confusing, did Myrnie Ann marry ? there is a marriage in 1920 Ann Myrnie CAREWICKHAM to a William Henry MATTHEWS ( reg 7938 )
Do you have a rough idea when Myrnie was born

OK, as i am not sure if Myrnie Ann married, i will assume she married William Henry MATTHEWS, as there is a William Henry and Myrnie Ann Matthews also on the Electoral Rolls, in Kooyong 1924 ( Occ Labourer and Myrnie home duties )

This is everthing I know.
She married William Mathews 1 t not 2 in 1920
I have no idea who her parents were or if she had brothers/sisters. I am really trying to find out who they were but I am at a dead end. I don't think he has a copy of her birth or death cert. Am I able to get these?

You will find the information you need on her marriage certificate CAREWICKHAM Myrnie Ann 1920 #7938 which you can purchase online & download it immediately to your computer for a cost of $17.50 here:

Date and place of marriage
Name and surnames

Parent's names of each party including mother's maiden name and occupation of father
Signatures of the parties and witnesses

Once you have this you can then post the information here & we will be able to help you further :)
You can also purchase her death certificate in the same way using the reference in post #3.
Did her husband William remarry? Do you know when he died & was buried?

Ok i'm getting a little confused now. Can anyone find a birth cert for Myrnie Ann?
Everywhere has a record of a Mary Ann being born to James and Bertha but no Myrnie Ann. I am wondering if these 2 could be the same person so can anyone find a birth cert for Mary Ann born about 1898. I thought Myrnie was born about 1900. On her marriage cert she was 22 in July 1920 and 32 when she died in Oct 1931 so dates arn't really adding up are they??? or am I just so confused it's not making sense to me?
1931 died age 32 makes her born 1899??
1920 aged 22 makes her born about 1898 Mary Ann was born 1898 hmm

Yes, I'd say that is her birth is registered under the name of Mary Ann CARWICKHAM & as you know you can purchase her birth certificate.
The dates on her marriage & death certificate do match with the birth registration as she probably died before her birthday in 1931 :)

So now I am very confused. I have Bertha's Death cert. It lists 3 childen Mary 36 years, Alfred 32 Years and Edward 29 years and first husband as James Guigan not carewickham.
Can someone help me I can't find Guigan anywhere could Guigan have been james Carewickham's middle name and they left off the surname. Why wouldn't they have the other kids Christy, Alfred listed and I didn't know about a Edward and the years next to Mary Ann and Alfred don't match up.

I think I must have the wrong person. On her death cert is say's father John I thought her father was Hans and mother listed also as a Bertha I thought her mother was a Margaret.

Hi shasea,
Mistakes do happen frequently on Death Certificate due usually to the deficits in the knowledge of the informant.
Now, if you would take the time to type All the Details from the certificate
(That is, the entries in every one of the columns)
Then the helpers may be able to assist further.
It is surprising what a small detail can reveal.
Remember, too that JOHN is a sort of translation for HANS, JANS, JOHAN etc.
It is possible he called himself John.

This is the death of the EDWARD mentioned on the CERTIFICATE.
His age at death gives a birthdate of 1902 which is confirmed by a digitised document of his ww2 service giving his full name as EDWARD CHRISTIAN JAMES and birth place DUNOLLY.
This tallies with CHRISTY JAS 1902
CHRISTY JAS , I believe is the child of JAMES CAREWICKHAM and BERTHA listed above.
Perhaps he was "adopted " by Mark SOWDEN as he was young when his father, JAMES died.
{Though of course..... Edward was born a couple of years before the marriage of BERTHA to CAREWICKHAM....so who can be sure ::) }

Information on death certificates only as good as the knowledge of the informant so you need to take all the other information into account before stating you have the 'wrong' death certificate.
Another birth to Bertha before marriage...

Hi, I am back again to see if anyone can find a birth certificate for Bertha Maria/Marie Hansen. There was a reference made inn the thread to a Bertha being born to Han and Margaret. I searched along these lines but today I discovered that the Bertha referred to was born in 1871 and died in 1876 so this is not her. I can't find anything on Bertha Hansens birth apart from that one and she died aged 5. also noted on Bertha Hansen/sowdens death cert it has her mother listed as Bertha unknown.
Nothing is appearing to piece together with this family. If Myrnie/Myrna was born Mary Ann wouldn't her marriage and death cert have to be Written as Mary Ann if in fact Mary Ann is Myrnie. Ahh so confusing but there is no birth records of a Myrnie Carewickham.
Can anyone find anything else to give me hope.

I am not sure what I am allowed to refer to on here. It was a site where they were buried in Victoria old gold mining town, her brother John and sister Catherine were also buried there with parents as Hans and Margaret.

Okay, with information from Shasea, I have confirmed that the birth in reply #19 matches the death in reply #36 along with the burial here

So we are again looking for the birth of Bertha HANSEN (b. Serpentine) who married James CARIWICKHAM in 1904 #3582 as per reply #15.

great to clear that up Merlin thank you :). I haven't got the marriage cert for them. On Bertha's death cert it lists mother: Bertha Unknown. I am out all day today but will purchase it on Friday and hope it will reveal something to get us back on track.
Oh there are a few weird things on the death cert such as children listed for the marriage to James are Mary 36 years, Alfred 32 years and Edward 29 years. Also husband 1 is James Guigan not Carewickham but I can't find Guigan anywhere. sparrat was kind enough to find Edward under Edward Sowden and as mentioned could have been adopted by Mark cause dates are a bit funny as to her having him, being with James him dying etc. No Kids to Bertha and Mark listed on the death cert.
I believe Bertha to be born about 1877+\- 1 year cause she was 21 when Mary Ann/ Myrnie Ann was born according to that birth cert. That would also correspond to Bertha being 66 when she died.

Got the marriage cert for Bertha and James tonight. Bertha's mother is listed as what looks like Annie Dwyer and father listed as Christen Hansen. I am guessing these are right more so than her Death cert saying father John and Mother Bertha.

Hi all i happened upon this post while trying to do some research on a family member of mine.
I found a prison record for aa Eliza Carewickham b 01/03/1869 Father James also in prison Mother Sarah Carewickham, But it also states Sarah was Deceased and a Half Caste. i was searching for a marriage cert for a long time but if Sarah was a Half caste would they have been married???? so would Eliza be a sibling of Myrnie May

Eliza wasn't a sibling to Myrna. I think she was a cousin.
