Hello,
If someone is able to look up the following, I would be most appreciative. :)
Peter Oliver dob 1834 ? baptism Sep 1834 - Crayford. Trying to get info on parents - ?John and Sarah.
Many thanks,
Christine

Hi Christine,
Well they are hard to find in 1841!
On the same batch as Peters Christening 07 Sept 1834, Crayford, Kent, are;
MARY, 16 May 1830
CHARLOTTE, 07 October 1832
Unfortunately I cant find any of them in 1841 conclusively and certainly not together.
No sign of Peter at all.
Therefore we have no idea where John/Sarah were born or Married.
Do you have Peters Marriage Cert?
What is his Fathers Occp?
Trish :)

Hi Trish,
Thanks for your help. I haven't been able to find them together in 1841 census either. No idea of John's occupation. Will order marriage cert. I think I have Peter on 1851 census at 18yrs old - rope spinner - but a visitor - not with family. I think (from what other distant cousins have provided but with no actual proof) that John Oliver died in 1847. Will follow up.
Again thank you for confirming Peter's christening and his two sisters. Much appreciated.
Christine :)

1841 Census has a John OLIVER, Shoemaker, born c 1795, living in Crayford, Kent.
With him are;
SARAH age 9
MATTHEW age 7
Familysearch.org has this Marriage in Crayford 1830 (no exact date);
John OLIVER
Sarah HILL
I had seen the 1851 Census for Peter but where is he in 1841!
I have tried looking even without a surname with no luck.
Trish :)

Thanks for the extra follow up Trish.
Kind regards, Christine :)

Hi Christine,
Let us know what the Marriage Cert contains please :)
-
I will Trish, but it will take a few weeks to get to me in Australia. I'll order it today. :)

Hi Hope you read this
How are you doing with the Oliver family of Crayford and Bexley Heath. Peter Oliver is my gt gt grandfather. Mike
-
Hi, I've just come across your post from a few years ago. Obviously I haven't been too active regarding family research for a while. Peter Oliver was my gg grandfather also then I'm descended from William Henry Thomas Peter Oliver and my grandfather was Leslie Oliver.
Please contact me if you'd like to share family history research.
Regards,
Christay

Hi Cristay,
I hope Mike has the same email address and gets your reply.
Did you ever get that M/C?
I have had another look at your Tree.
Info from FreeREG;
Peters Baptism has his Father John as a Shoemaker.
John OLIVER and Sarah HILL were Bachelor/Spinster at their 1830 Marriage
Sarah was Buried 7 May 1837 age 28 (Birth c 1809)
John was Buried 19 Feb 1847 age 50 (birth c 1797)
Baptisms of John/Sarahs Children;
MARY 16 May 1830, buried 11 July age 10 weeks
CHARLOTTE 7 Oct 1832
PETER 7 Sept 1834
I wondered if Peter had been put down as Matthew in 1841 Census with John and Sarah Jnr?
Also 1841 John Oliver is not born in Kent.

Hi Trish,
Seems I had trouble ordering the marriage cert as GRO don't go back to 1830??
I'm not sure where to go from here but will start searching online to see where St Paulinus marriage certs can be found.
Thanks for your post and follow up.

Digital copies of Crayford parish registers are viewable on Ancestry.
John Oliver was listed as a shoemaker on Peter's baptism in 1834. The marriage says they were both single and resided in the parish. Sarah could sign her name, John made his mark. Neither of the witnesses have the same names as the bride and groom.

I meant Peter Olivers M/C to establish his Fathers name/occp ;D

Hi Smudwhisk and Trish,
Thanks for your help. My ancestry subscription is only basic so I don't have access to all documents. The Australian $ doesn't go far when converting to Pounds. :(
I was hoping the records would show a parent name for John and Sarah.
Trish, sorry I misunderstood. I will check if I obtained a marriage cert for Peter and Harriett.
Again, thanks to you both.

Yes you did but as you didn't provide the occupation from the baptism, I thought I would.
Trish, sorry I misunderstood. I will check if I obtained a marriage cert for Peter and Harriett.
Peter's father's occupation on the marriage was a Shoemaker. Harriet's father's was a Printer.

Ancestry UK had a free weekend over Easter and the Bexley Archives records were included. Its worth looking out for them, they are usually posted about on here.
You won't get parent's names on marriages before 1837.

Sorry I didnt notice all you had posted re the Marriage smudwisk :-[

Thanks Smudwhisk and Trish. I will keep my eye out for free weekends!
I did order the marriage cert for Peter and Harriett still waiting for it to arrive, however seems Smudwhisk has found all the info for me. I'll let you know if anything interesting comes of it.

Hi Trish and Smudwhisk,
The marriage cert for Peter and Harriet arrived today. I can confirm that Peter's father was John Oliver and he was listed as a shoemaker on the marriage cert.
Can put this one to bed for now.
Many thanks again for your assistance.
