as willie bat has found that fred and harry birks in fact died during the 1st world war
will carry on going back with george and dorothy birks

they were living at whitefield at the time of the baptism

I have found a marriage between a John Birks and a Emma Harris at Manchester cathedral in 1842 but I have my doubts that it is the correct one but will keep it by

This was my wifes family
Florrie and George Hayes actually had THREE children.The third was a boy called Harry who was about ten years younger than Anne and Bessie.

It is quite a while since I did any research on the Birk family and I will have to read through my notes to see how far I got.
My connection is slight.
I found out that my mother had a half brother that no one knew anything about.He was brought up by Susanah Jackson. Susannah Jackson married Sam Birks b1888 Florrie Birks bother.
I do have a fair bit of information on the family so if you need anything then just ask

"Yes, my maternal grandmother's family Birks were numerous in Bury. They ran the town's yard for many years at the end of 19th century, and produced Alderman Joe Birks, a mayor of the town".
"Fred Birks, aged 8 in 1901 census, my great uncle, was killed in WW1, as was his brother Harry Birks. Can fill in Birks and Kirkman link from George Birks b 1852 to present".
