Hello,
One of my relations is down as having the surname Hengoed on her marriage certificate from the mid 1800's. I'm assuming Hengoed is the place in Carmarthenshire. Does anyone have any history or knowledge of the Hengoed family?
Regards

That should be an easy family to trace! ;D
A quick look at the 1861 census shows 14 people with the surname Hengoed, and 8 with HenGod.

Hello again,
How would I find the name of the deceased husband of Rachel Hengoed, born 1799 on the 1851 census?
Cheers

Usually you either take out a subscription to a site like FindMyPast - which has transcribed all the census returns, or you ask a RootsChatter!
Or use Ancestry.
Or maybe FreeCEN - that's free, but not complete.
In 1851, we find Rachel here:
Reference HO107, Piece 2469, Folio 241, Page 2
Mangwyn, Llanelly
Hengoed, Rachel Head Widow F 52 Farmer of 60 Acres b Llanon, Carmarthenshire
Hengoed, William Son M 10 b Llanelly, Carmarthenshire
+ 2 labourers
At the same address in 1841, we find:
Reference HO107, Piece 1379, Book/Folio 7/5, Page 2
Ungoed, Richard M 35 Farmer
Ungoed, Rachel F 40
Ungoed, William M 8 months
Haries, Rees M 20
Jones, Thomas M 9
Ungoed, Mary F 15 All born in County
Of course, the 1841 census doesn't show relationship to head of house, or place of birth.

Richard died in 1848 and did not leave a will, but there are letters of administration granted to widow Rachel. Search here for Ungoed in the diocese of St Davids

Rachel died in 1851 without leaving a will. There's an admon in her name for son, William, to administer estate with his guardian & uncle William Ungoed.

Thanks for the replies. I've had Ancestry and now have Findmypast.

Hi
The Hengoed name is derived from Ungoed which is a family name from the Pembrey/Kidwelly area.
Your Richard Hengoed b.1799 has known ancestry going back to a John Ungoed b. abt 1660. He seems likely to have been from Pembrey.
Richard Hengoed/Ungoed married Rachel Clarke on 19th March, 1830, at Llannon Church, Carms.
Their only child William was born in abt 1841 and became a clergyman, living in Llanrhidian parish on the Gower peninsula, near Swansea. He was not married.
Please PM me if you would like more info on the Ungoed family.
