Title: Kinghams Printers Kings Langley / Chapel Street Hemel
Post by: FredRogers on Sunday 15 May 11 11:15 BST (UK)
My Grandad Leonard John Odell (1910-1998) known as "Jack" worked as a printer at Kinghams aswell as my Uncle Peter Rodway.I remember in the 70's as alittle girl visting and remember you walked through a little newsagent shop and through the back was the big old fashioned printing presses.
Does this place still exist? Or does anyone have any pictures or history of this place in Kings Langley. My Grandad lived in Shaffords Cottages, Nash Mills and used to cycle to work.I know the cottages are still there but his house was practically knocked down and rebuilt.
As a child his family came from the Cherry Bounce area of Hemel Hempstead and Lived in 8 Chapel Street in 1911 so I would be grateful for info about this area .
Many Thanks.

Thanks for the great links AncientShadows...the surname was definitely Odell and they all seemed to be in the Cherry Bounce area of Hemel from 1841 onwards.

Have you thought about contacting Dacorum Heritage Trust:  http://www.dacorumheritage.org.uk/

The trust holds a lot of information, maps and photographs about the area and may even have information about the Odell family.  For a small search fee you would be able to obtain copies of any relevant items.

Think I may know a relation of yours from Abbot Printers - Christine ( Chris) O'Dell? married Rodway?

Hi

If I recall Chris had a daughter which must be your cousin. I had heard that Peter had sadly passed away.

I used to work at the Abbot. Unfortunately I cannot be of any help to you on your family search but came across your post on google when searching 'Abbot Printers' randomly.
I suppose I was just being inquisitive!
Quite happy if you do not want to correspond anymore. Thanks

Sorry I have only seen this lovely reply today . I remember visiting as a child to Kinghams ...I remember walking thru a little shop area first and Grandad showing me where he worked ...would have been sometime in the early 70s
