Title: John Cook, Barrow, Crook Hall

In the Armitt Liby in Ambleside, there is book of local tunes with the following inscription -
I, John Cook Crook Born The 12th of April In care [?] of Lord 1778
It also mentions [?] Barrow Crook Hall
Any information on any of the above would be very welcome

Hi, can't tell you anything of John Cook but Crook Hall was the family home of the Phillipsons. When Sir Christopher Phillipson died (early 1700's) his three daughters inherited Crook Hall, who sold it to a Major Pigeon, the illegitimate son of Charles 2nd.  His daughter carried the hall into her marriage to Ralph Day esq. who was the owner in 1777.
