Title: MCSWAIN Warrnambool Cemetery - Completed
Post by: Dalet on Saturday 21 May 11 00:25 BST (UK)
Does anyone have access to Warrnambool Cemetery burials and/or Headstone inscriptions?

Hugh Allan MCSWAIN died in 1981 at Warrnambool, his wife Isabella died in 1969 also at Warrnambool

A sister of Hugh - May Brown formerly Richardson died in 1965.

Any help with burials with any of these greatly appreciated

Thanks Dale

Hi Dale,

They have a very helpful caretaker who lives onsite. It may be worth giving him a call.

Hi Dale,
I am not able to find a Headstone Inscripton for HUGH ALLAN or ISABELLA at either WARNAMBOOL CEMETERY or WARNAMBOOl LAWN CEMETERY.

For your interest their death records

Mother Isabel
Place WARR
Age 80
Year 1981
Reg 19539

MCSWAIN Isabella Watson
Father Wilson David
Mother Isabella  GILLIN
Place  WARR
Age 62
Year 1969
Reg  28454

I do not see a death recorded in Vic for MAY BROWN in 1965 with father McSWAIN

There is however

BROWN Mary Ann
Father Mcswain Norman
Mother Flora Isabell  MCLEOD
Death WARR
Age 89

Again, I do not see a MI at Either of the WARNAMBOOL Cemeteries.  Shall have a look around the area.

There are a number of Inscriptions in the name McSwain at the Warnambool Cemeteries.  I can PM them to you if of interest.

Hi Dalet,

I've just found this site and come across your inquiries about Hugh Allan McSwain and his wife Isabella Watson McSwain. I know this was a few years ago but I am curious about your interest.
These are my grandparents..my mums mother & father.
They are buried together in the Warrnambool cemetery but there is no headstone on their grave. I'm not sure if you would like any other information on them or other family members but I could certainly help out if you do.

Kind regards

Jodie Keats

Hi Jodie,

Thanks for your reply. I would love to swap information with you.

You will need to post 3 messages to Rootschat before I can send you a personal Message.

My connection to your grandparents is through Hugh's mother's line the McLeods. Hugh's maternal grandfather Niel McLeod was the brother of my GGGrandmother Janet Clarke nee McLeod. Janet and Niel's father John Bain McLeod is also buried at Warrnambool without a headstone

Hi Dale,

Sorry I've been working heaps and haven't had time to reply. Just sitting with mum at the moment going through who's who in the family. I've been able to trace the McSwain side back to my GGGGG grandfather Iain McSwain born 1700 in Scotland, but as yet no further than that. Mum knows a little bit about the McLeod side. Are you after specific information about the McLeods. I'm not sure how this whole Rootschat thing works but I will endeavour to work it out 😄 I'll post a few messages on there so you can contact me.

Hi Jodie,

Thanks for the reply. If you put one more message on I think we can then use the Personal messaging.

I am descended from John Bain McLeod and his first wife Catherine McSwain. Catherine had died around 1835 on Raasay and John remarried around 1836 to Flora McIntosh. John,  Flora and children Euphemia, John, Catherine and Roderick came to Australia in 1854 aboard "Edward Johnson".

It is believed the Catherine McLeod nee McSwain was the daughter of Donald McSwain and Anne Gillies. No records exist of Catherine's birth. marriage or death or the marriage of John and his second wife Flora. So unfortunately in many cases much of it is guesswork.

Hope to her from you again soon

Dale

Hi Glenn,

As Roderick and Ann would be our common ancestors that makes us 4th cousins (I think).
I dont have much on Ewen's family maybe because he changed his name. Could you add anything?
eg Ewen's wife and their children.

I would love to know a little more about them.

Regards Dale
