Title: Completed: Likely burial place for a Bridge of Weir death
Post by: K44ENF on Sunday 22 May 11 00:18 BST (UK)
I have recently discovered a relative who died in Bridge of Weir in 1975. I was hoping that someone on the board here with some local knowledge could point me in the direction of a likely burial place, or where I might get access to burial records.

Any responses appreciated.

Have a look at this thread which also discussed this.

In addition to those suggested The Port Glasgow cemetery is only a few miles further away than those listed.

Families tended to use locations which had links with, or some meaning for, the family

Although Port Glasgow is a possibility, it is more likely the burial, (if not a cremation) would have taken place at Kilbarchan Cemetary (assuming it was open in 1975) which is around 2 or 3 miles from BoW. After that likely contenders would have been Abbey Cemetary in Elderslie or Hawkhead in Paisley.

Thanks both of you for the information. I have now discovered that the burial took place in Kilbarchan cemetery. Renfrewshire Council are sending me a map and I will go soon to take some photos.

Very grateful for your help.
