Hi All
Looking for help with the ancestry for William Halls and May Ann Coomb. They were both born in Cornwall about 1800 and died in East Moonta, Australia.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
David

02-Dec 1823 Altarnun
William Hales m Mary Ann Coumbe
Is this the couple you want ?
If so what exactly do you want to know about them ? It is very useful to those helping if you can be more specific.

Hello Fizzy
Thank you very much for your help.
Yes, I believe this is my couple. Being greedy I would love to know their DOB's, parents, etc.
Being realistic, I would be grateful for anything you have the time to find.
Regards
David

Interestingly there is a James COOMBE born c 1796, Cornwall, with Parents RICHARD/MARTHA who ends up in Sth Australia on a Family Tree.
He does not appear on the Altanun baptisms for RICHARD/MARTHA though but he is on the IGI;
JAMES Coumbe 12 Feb 1793, Altarnun, Cornwall
Parents RICHARD/MARTHA
Cornwall OPC has these Children to Richard/Martha;
WILLIAM 1792
SARAH 1794
WILLIAM 1798
THOMAS 1799
MARTHA 1800
WM 1802
MARY ANN 1805###
MARTHA 1807
Marriage Cornwall OPC;
Richard COUMBE, Groom of Altranun
Martha SYMONS,
23 March 1788, Tintagel, Cornwall
(Martha could have been born Tintagel as Brides usually Married in their own Parish)
You ma have to be more careful looking for William Halls/JHales as his Occp was Sojourner on Marriage so he may be from anywhere.

William Halls is my Partner 3rd Great Grandfather, been searching for any information on him, like his Parents...I see people saying William Halls and Mary Ann Coumbe not Coomb, how do you know this is them instead of the other names?
-
Welcome to Rootschat sammiegirl.
In answer to your question spellings of Surnames were more loose in those days.
If you check the sources of the info posted by Fizzy and I you will see that is how it is spelt .
Trish :)
EDIT; The same info is on FreeREG www.freereg.org.uk
Use the soundex option as the Christenings of Richard/Marthas Children are under Coombe/Coumbe
there are more than I posted above in 2011.

Hi again,
I would not take info on Trees as completely correct.
EG's
One has William/Mary Ann as having a Daug Susannah 1839 in South Australia
Another has them leaving England 1849.
So not possible!
If they left 1849 for Australia this may be the 1841 Census for them;
1841 Census
Calstock, Cornwall
HO107/133/2/Calstock
William HALLS, 30, Copper Miner
Mary, 30
James, 15
William, 12
John, 8
Grace, 7
Mary Ann, 4
Susanah, 2
Marriage;
02 December 1823, St Noona, Alturnun, Cornwall
William HALES
Mary Ann COUMBE, Minor
Witnesses, Thomas COUMBE/William WADGE
So Mary was underage, ie under 21 at time of Marriage
Marya Ann Hals Death is reg 1888 South Australia aged 88.
Do you have the Cert?
Does it have Parents names/marriage date/arrival in Australia etc?
Also Trees have them arriving 1849 in Sth Australia;
That is this Family which I dont think is yours;
Halls William, 35, Agr. Labourer, 653/1, Birth place Essex ?
Mary A. , 33
Sarah, 14
Eliza, 2
Rosanna, inf

So they immigrated pre 1841 Census then?
Mary Ann Halls Death Reg has her age 88 in 1888.
If born 1808 she would only be 15 in 1823 when married.
Does her Death Cert have this info?

Hi again,
this still troubles me as Death Regs makes them a lot older than Shpping Info.
I am working on something else but due to work also I am very busy.
I will get back to you when I can.

Sarah Halls was 14 in 1849 so born c 1834
It worries me that there was such a large gap between Sarah and next Child Eliza.
1841 Census

William HALLS, 25, Ag Lab
Mary Ann, 25
SARAH, 6

All born in County
Risbridge is the Reg District for Bumpstead Helion
William HALLS Married Mary Anne JOLLY, 06 January 1834, Bumpstead-Helion, Essex
Death Regs;
CHARLES Halls, Sept 1848, Risbridge, 12 275
