Title: Mansons in Caithness
Post by: trevorb56 on Wednesday 25 May 11 12:34 BST (UK)
Hi Everyone, my first post on here so here goes ! I'm doing some research on behalf of my brother in law, James Ross Manson, he was born in Wick, Caithness but has lived most of his life in Northumberland. His father was Angus MacLeod Manson and his grandfather was James Manson who also married a Manson, Helen Matheson Manson.

After that it's all unverified as I have traced the rest of this line through the internet on various sites.
I believe his paternal great grandfather was also James Manson and he married Margaret Johnstone in 1851. His great great grandfather I believe to be William Manson who married Margaret Henderson in 1824.

It would be good to know if anyone has the same line or info which could verify what I hope is my brother in laws ancestry.

Many Thanks

"Ello" Trevor

My gran mother was Eleanor Manson Johnston ~ born Edinburgh 1919

Her uncle was Angus McLeod Manson B: 18th April 1909 ~ Olrig

And was Angus Manson not living and then died in Ashington ~ Northumberland died 16th Jan 1970 ?

As my grand mother and father : Donald Shaw

I know you want information to go back along the line . . .

But I am trying to find information on my great gran Charlotte Manson B: 26th Feb 1897 ~ Dunnet
Died 10th Feb 1924 aged just 26 ~ Edinburgh and her young infant daughter Christina Margaret Johnston who died Sep 1924 ~ Wick ~ and to why both of them died so young . . .

History

James Manson born 30th May 1825 ~ Bower
+ Margaret Johnston born 21 Aug 1827 ~ Walls

Married as on James Manson birth cert shows as Dec 1849 not 1851 . . . ?

James Mason born 9th August 1866 ~ Bower

Helen Matheson Manson (B: 1868 Cannisbay) marriage 6th Jun 1890

Angus & Charlotte Manson 2 of maybe 9 children

And would you be able to give me any information as to why they moved to Northumberland and is there any more relatives of that time era that came to live over the border . . . ?

Many thanks and hope you found what you were looking for . . . : )

Not sure James Manson father to James (1866) was a Postman mind more a ploughman as shown on James Manson's birth certificate ~ cheers

As with all families of the olden times marriages were inter linked . . .

This seems to have been lost coming into the 19th century . . .

There is a lot said for marrying your cousins I say ~ cheers
