Hello,
my family migrated from the UK to Australia and New Zealand in the 1890s
They started a small circus and called it Bibby Bros Circus and Buckjump Show.
I do not know if they were in showbusiness in the UK or just decided to start a circus in Australia.
Any info would be a great help.
My grand fathers name was Emerys Albert Bibby also known as Bert Bibby.
He had two brothers Ted and Jack. There was also a Lionel Bibby that did a sharpshooting act.
He was with the circus but I do not know how he was related.
I think my Great Grand fathers name was John Bibby.
I was told that we still have relatives in the UK called Bibby that are still in showbusines.

Gary Brophy

Hi,
thank you very much for those photos.
if you come across anything else it would be appreciated.
I came across a name that may be from the same Bibby line.
His name is Elliot Bibby also a UK showman, is he related to L. Bibby on your photos.
Do you have any contact details for the Bibbys on the fairgrounds.

Gary Brophy

there are still showmen called Bibby - you could try to find them by using their trade paper "The Worlds Fair"
All showmen subscribe to it. Its based in Oldham UK.

The editor might run a feature if you get in touch or you could place an advert in the classifieds. Good luck!

Several Bibby families were living in caravans around Essex and were described as 'Travellers' and 'Licensed Hawkers'. Some of them also appear to have been in the circus trade. Their caravans were variously sited at Ilford, Shenfield, Prittlewell, Luton, Chelmsford, Harlow, Epping, Danbury, Hertfordshire and in a forest near Romford.
They all seem to be descended from John Bibby 1794 of Chelmsford, Essex. John was a shoemaker in 1841 and a poultry dealer in 1851. His son Charles Bibby, born about 1837, became a steam circus owner by 1901. Another son George Walter Bibby was a horse dealer in 1881.
I have a family tree if you are interested but it doesn't include any of the names that you mention.

Hi
I have tried so many times to attach my Bibby names, at first it was error too long, and then rename file, which I tried to do, but each time now it says there is already a file of this name, and I don't know how to alter this.
Is there any other way I can send the paperwork I have to you
Poodlebell

Hello, I’m new to roots chat.
I’m not sure how to Start a new thread. So I’m sorry to jump on this post and I hope you don’t mind.
Anyway, I wanted to say hello, as I am descended from Jemima Bibby 1867. (Who I believe is descended from John Bibby)
It is a well known family story that Jemima was a psychic/fortune teller and was well renowned in Corringham Essex.
Kind regards
