Hi
I can find him in 1871 and there is a possible for 1841 but of course that census did not ask for the place of birth only the county, so there is a 15 year old JG born in Bucks but no telling if he is the right one.
regards

In 1871 he has Sydney Butler aged 17 from Bierton, Bucks living with him. Listed as Brother-in-law
Suggesting that Catherine Gray(1846. Bierton/Broughton) is nee. BUTLER.
In 1891 he gives his p.o.b as Broughton, Bucks. Broughton is a couple of miles from Bierton.
In 1871 there is also another James Grey b1823(Widowed)- Bierton, Bucks in 1871. Living in Scarborough. Living with him is Dan Shaw b1855. Isle of Wight. Listed as stepson.
In 1851 there is a James Gray/Grey c1825. Aylesbury, Bucks. In Barracks in Salford. Occ. Private in the 28th. Regt.
In 1861 there is a James Gray/Grey c1823. Aylesbury, with wife Sarah(b1824. Boston, Lincs ), and step children, Dan Shaw & Frank Shaw. Occ. Chelsea Pensioner.
In 1881 there is a James Gray/Grey c1823. Aylesbury. Spouse Mary Gray b1824. Schagglethorpe, Yorkshire. Occ. Bricklayers Labourer & Chelsea Pensioner.

Grays name so I can hopefully tie him in with this Gray.

James Gray b Bierton Buckinghamshire married to Catherine moved to Tipton Staffs sometime ( after 1871 Im presuming) and is listed as living there on the 1881 census.
As my husbands relative is from Tipton,Staffs Im pretty sure this is his ancestor. He is actually the only Gray listed living in Tipton
at that time.
Thanks again for all the info. Im pretty sure that he will fit in eventually with Uncle Ernie's family tree. Its just a case of me working
out how now.

OK Niglor. I just thought while I've got my face in the Census, I would just throw in what I've found. ;)
BucksFHS could do a search for you, if no one has access to Bierton PR's.
Good luck. :)

Thanks for that!
I will keep notes on all the names you have listed cos they may be of use at a later date. I would love to be able to get back
further for Uncle Ernie! :)
He's really keen for me to find out as much as I can.
