Title: Frasers of Kilarlity
Post by: alexandramac on Sunday 19 June 11 08:47 BST (UK)
Hello everyone.  I am wondering if anyone could please see if there is any information of a James Fraser and an Isabella McFarquar.  Their daughter Helen 'Nelly' Fraser (my gggrandmother who married a William Fraser)  was born in 1803 and I do not know if there were other siblings or when they were married.  Any information would be fantastic.  Thank you.

Hello everyone.  I am wondering if anyone could please see if there is any information of a James Fraser and an Isabella McFarquar.  Their daughter Helen 'Nelly' Fraser (my gggrandmother who married a William Fraser in 1823 in Kiltarlity)  was born in 1803 have you the correct year? 2 births showing for a Helen in Kiltarlity, 1797 and 1801 and I do not know if there were other siblings or when they were married.  Any information would be fantastic.  Thank you.

Hello Malky, thank you for such a quick reply....The year I have for her birth is 1803 ...she married in 1823 and died in 1870... according to ancestry records...always a possibility that it is wrong.....would appreciate the 2 births anyway, if they are the same parents as hers ...thank you so much...

Go onto a Google search and copy Kilarlity in the search box. Then look at the second entry.
You may find some information there.
Then copy Frasers of Kiltarlity into the Google search box. The first two entries may be usefull also.

I would post the actual web sites, but they will be removed by the mod's, as they are competitors.

Regards

Malky

Thank you very much Malky.  It didn't yield me much unfortunately.  Could anyone please see if there is anything on either James or Isabella, a marriage or birth at all.  I have nothing to go on to who their parents might be.  Thank you all very much.

hi ghostwhisperer.....yes yes yes, that is them....yayyyyyy! .the  ( James, Colin and Duncan )Fraser Bros farmed here at Byaduk about 2 or 3 hours away from me in the Western District Of Victoria, (Margaret and Ann the sisters came in 1868) they were very early settlers there.  The original house they built in the early 1860's still stands and is classified by the National Trust here.  Thank you for the brother John entry, I could not find him listed anywhere else and wondered if he had died as an infant.  I will have to check out who is who on the next entry only knowing James and Isabella....Thank you so much, that is so much more than I could have hoped for. Cheers!

Yes I have just found out that his wife remarried and her daughter Jess died unmarried in 1977, however Dr.James Fraser had had another daughter before he was married born in 1900, whose descendants would like to know if there are any family members left which are related to Dr.James

There appears to be two Balchraggans - one near Abriachan, and the other near Moniack. Am I correct in assuming this one refers to the Moniack area?

BTW, I appear to be a distant match to a number of Frasers or descendants which all lead back to Kiltarlity. My paternal grandmother was a Fraser.
My John (Simon) Fraser, b abt 1796, Tailor, 12 Telford St, m 1818 Inverness, Janet McIntosh, Green of Muirton. They had nine children: William 1819, Eliz 1821, John 1824, Simon 1826, John Simon 1828, Thomas 1830, Janet 1833, James 1836, John Simon 1839 (from 1842 death).
Ninth child, John Simon, may have been b in Liverpool where John and Janet moved to between 1836 and 1839. All others b Inverness, INV.
Janet McIntosh Fraser died in Liverpool in 1839. John remarried in 1841 to Hannah McLandsburgh/Landsborough. His father was then named as "William Fraser, Labourer, deceased"

Md is a Medical Doctor, AM is a Minister I think and MB - no idea possibly Bachelor of Medicine?
MD = Medicinae Doctor = Doctor of Medicine (not all medical doctors have an MD degree)
AM = Magister Artiun = MA = Master of Arts (not necessarily a minister)
MB = Medicinae Baccalaureus = Bachelor of Medicine (MB Ch B is the basic medical degree to qualify as a  medical doctor. ChB = Chirurgiae Baccalaureus = Bachelor of Surgery)

In Volume 3 Part 1 "A History of the Parish of Kiltarlity", there are detailed family trees of two families 1)Peter Fraser and Margaret Fraser and 2) James Fraser (b) c 1758 (d) after 1810 and Isobel McFarquahar  (b) c 1771 (d) after 1841 on page 111.  Their history of Wester Clunes starts on page 110. Details of the two who tied the two families  (Peter's and James' above), were Isabella Fraser and James Fraser (married Jan 30, 1812).  Tree shows 13 children.  On page 28 there is commentary on John Fraser, of Balachraggan, born in Wester Clunes 1828, died 1916 who represented the Clan for a portrait for Queen Victoria's instigation.  Has his picture also.

I've traced my relatives to Wester Clunes to early 1770's through 1841.  In 1851 they showed up at Lettoch.  There were multiple families at Wester Clunes many with the Fraser name, I'm sure many were related.  Visited there about 15 years ago.

Alexandramac:  William and Helen with children Margaret, Duncan, Colin, & James are on the chart.

Folks, Fraser of Lovat v Mrs Anne Fraser of Eskadale & Hugh Fraser esq.  This is from the Highland Family History Society's current journal. Lovat takes Mrs Fraser to court over lands & access to hill grazings in Kiltarlity. Almost 40 witness statements listed in this 1808 case with more Fraser's than you could shake a stake at & their inter-relationships.
