Hi Folks my GGreatgrandfather James Farish's mother was Mary Farish. I know this from his marriage info and his death info. At time of marriage in 1879 James is 20 and has his mother "Mary Farish formerly 'squiggle' pos Hawthorne" (bad handwriting), but no fathers name and again on his death info. Both have address as Battery Annan.
I also have note of a Mary Farish, address Battery Annan from the 1851 census and record of death as 1909, address Battery st Annan same parents. So is this the same person? If anyone can access 1861 census Mary should have a son James hopefully address battery annan. Hope someone can help. ???

I'm related to some of the Annan Farish's.
To help with my research I've transcribed the OPR for Annan but just for the names I'm interested in - a work in progress at the link below (includes Farish).

This doesn't help hugely as James seems to be born post 1855? Have you found a birth reg for him?
I have access to the film in the library I'm going next week so I'll check the 1861.
Have you checked the 1851 for any possible Mary's? It's online here...

I'll get back to you with what I find in 1861.
Cheers,

Hi Pam James was b.4th Sept 1859. So should be about 2 on the 61 census. Had a look at your list and Marys there with her parents just hope its the same Mary. Look forward to hearing from you

As I didn't have any info to really confirm the family, no internet access at library just this page printed, I'm guessing this the right family.

Hi Pam
This looks like the right family here. Mary and James both present and at the usual address, ages seem to tie in as well. I can't really find any way of strengthening the link further and I am 99% certain these are the ones. Your transcription is also a great help as several of the family members are listed here.
Many thanks again
Kev. :)

Hey Kev,
If these look like a good match then here they are in 1841.
Annan
ED: 4 p: 22
Battery
FARISH
William 50 cotton h.l.w
Margaret 50 cotton h.l.w
Robert 20 cotton h.l.w
Janet 15
Mary 15
James 9
All born in county
It is likely then that William Farish is on the 1801, 1811, & 1821 census - I have transcribed the Farishes on these census (they are a rare census as they have names, but it is hit and miss). When you have a parent fro William let me know and I'll have a look (there are too many to be sure and the ages are unreliable)
Finally, there is a William Farish cotton spinner included in the 1798 tax assessment in the Burgh of Annan.
All the best,
Pam

Hi Pam thanks for the info. I have Williams parents as Robert Farish and Jane Gass, these were listed on the death record. He died Dec 1857 making his DOB sometime in 1788. If you find any more it'll be great to get this info.
Many thanks again

I've looked at the early census and it isn't easy to say whether they are there or not.
I can send you the excel spreadsheet if you PM me your email.
You can then study it at leisure as and when you get more info.

Hi Pam,
I am also a descendant of the Farish clan through Robert-->William to Canada/USA.
I am very interested in the spreadsheet to which you refer. Is it still available? I tried the website listed above but it was no longer working.
Respectfully,
Jason Mrochek
