Hi
I looked on Scotlands People for you and found only 3 Robert Petries born around 1800
One was born in 22/10/1798 in Dundee with parents James and Agnes Wood
number two born 05/12/1798 Maryton, Angus parents William and Ann Nicoll
number three 28th September 1800 in Elgin, Moray to Alexander and Ann Ogg
Didnt find one in Ayrshire.
Just looked also for a wife called Marion marrying a William Petrie from 1815 to 1825 and cannot find one. Saying that there is no one from Ayrshire marrying on that list. Dont know where they all went?
I then put Marions name for a marriage and there is a Marion Reid marrying in 1823
but its to a Hugh Robertson at Edinbuirgh St Cuthberts 685/02 0400 0526
I looked for a Marion Reid for you and there are 2 for 1801
7/5/1801 Marion Reid parents William and Margaret McClure in Sorn, Ayr
3/7/1801 Marion Reid John and Marion Love in Irvine, Ayr
These are all from Scotlands People

Thank you Sandymc47
I don't have access to SP yet - Need Credits.
I've searched though FamilySearch and I've found one that seems to apply..
record title: Scotland Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950
name: Robert Petrie
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 15 May 1791
baptism/christening place: RELIEF CONGREGATION, IRVINE, AYR, SCOTLAND
birth date: 12 May 1791
father's name: Alexander Petrie
mother's name: Katharine Alexander
But I have no way to verify it.
Marion Reid/Meide
On the 1841 census, her birth place was listed as IRVINE; the 1851 had AYRSHIRE.
Still searching..

Well..
No luck finding Petrie in Ayrshire but there is Patrie or Pattrie - one in Irvine and one in Kilwinning..
Robert Patrie born 1801 in Irvine son of Andrew Patrie and Janet Neilson
Robert Pattrie born 1791 in Kilwinning son of Alexander Pattrie and Kathrine Ried
The birth dates work but the name is throwing me off.. I don't have enough credits for Scotlands People to pull each of them to double check the spelling etc. so I'll have to wait.
Crossing my fingers for a lucky break!
Anyone with insight?
Thanks!

Hi all. I’ve noticed a few posts talking about how the dates were wrong
When reading an OPR, read carefully. Most of the time they only record a baptism record not a birth record. So if dates are out check if they mention the birth. For example ,I have come across records that say “John Smith baptised today aged five “ I even saw one entry they were aged 14! Some entries have said baptised today born such and such a date.
So if you are totally relying on dates and looking for that kid who was baptised when he was 14 ,the dates would be way out.
It is the same with marriage; usually they post the banns Occasionally, they write in the actual wedding date.
