Title: Thomas Owens & Margaret Miller census help
Post by: portybelle on Sunday 10 July 11 21:33 BST (UK)
Wonder if anyone can find either of these people for me?

My great great great grandfather Thomas Owens' death record  in 1896 states his parents are Thomas Owens and Margaret Miller. Thomas senior is listed as a sailor. Thomas jr married in Sarah Geddes in 1858 in Edinburgh. Census records say he was born in Lerwick.  I have found a Thomas John Hellat Owens born 21 October 1827 on the IGI - siblings Isabella, Gilbert Sinclair and Margaret Mouat. Also possible marriage for Thomas and Margaret on 26 Nov 1811 in Lerwick.

I would like to find out if Thomas and Margaret are Shetlanders by birth. Can anyone see if there is any trace of them on 1841 or 1851 census either in Shetland or possibly Edinburgh?

Many thanks.

Amendment - Thomas death record says his parents are Thomas Owens and Catherine Scott!! This is definitely the correct person though so I'm presuming Thomas senior remarried. Mother's name of Margaret Miller comes in fact from marriage record.

I now have a bit more info on this family which suggests that Margaret died in 1831 - still need to confirm this with my source!

Thomas Sr remarried a Joan Georgeson in 1832 in Lerwick. I have found Joan with Thomas jr in Edinburgh in 1841 on Freecen. Struggling to find Thomas Sr in 1841 or either of my Thomases on 1851 Freecen though. Can anyone help? Thanks.
