I'm trying to trace the parents of Mary James, of Llandybie, who married Thomas Thomas, a mason of Llandilo-fawr, on the 22 Feb 1828. On the marriage record one witness was also a Thomas Thomas, who might have been his father, so I'd like to find his parents, also. I'd appreciate any information that anyone might have on them.

Is this the family?
Ffairfach, Pentrecwn, Llandilofawr HO107/1384/15 folio 11 pg 13
Thomas Thomas 35 mason
Mary 40
William 18
John 15
Sarah 12
Elizabeth 9
Jone 5
Mary 2
all born in county
1851 Ffairfach HO107/2471 folio 322 pg 9
Thomas Thomas head mar 52 mason b. Llandilofawr
Mary wife 57 b. Llandybie
Elizabeth dau 19 b. Llanfilofawr
Mary dau 12 b. Llandilofawr
If so, was Thomas previously married to another Mary as there's baptism for John in IGI extracted batch C099361 for Llandilo Fawr dated 19/3/1826 which suggests an ealrier marriage? Having said that, there's more than one Thomas & Mary Thomas having children baptised at the that time & without checking a copy of the register to check addresses & occupations, it's difficult to be sure.
Other baptisms from same batch
Sarah bp 30/7/1828
Elizabeth bp 29/7/1832
Mary bp 23/12/1838
There are at least 3 Thomas Thomas & Mary marriages in Llandilofawr between 1823 & 1828.

Thanks Osprey, for your input. That was the family, Mary was always 3 or 4 years older than Thomas in the census returns, right up to 1871. I have a copy of the marriage register in 1828, and as I said one witness was a Thomas Thomas, who may have been a father, and I was hoping someone may have had a record of the parents.

Hi Osprey,
Looking back at your comments, made me recheck my records. Looking at the 1841 census, and assuming that the ages of the children were correct, it makes my marriage date of 1828 seem quite a bit out. Either that or the eldest son, William, was from a previous marriage of Mary's. I think a reassessment is called for. Thanks for getting me thinking again.

there is a baptism for John, as I said, which looks as if the couple are married in 1826, but there is at least one other Thomas & Mary Thomas having children. Looks like access to the parish records is needed.

It looks as if the marriage may have taken place in 1825, assuming John was conceived after the marriage, and assuming his parents were my Thomas and Mary. I tried on Ancestry but they had no marriages before 1837 recorded. So I think a lot more research will be needed.
Thanks again,
Ken
