Hi

Welcome to rootschat  :)

Have you looked at the IGI - there are quite a few pre 1837 Fitzers there
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

If you are looking for a particular Fitzer family you could post the details on here

Thanks for all your replies.
My GGG Grandfather William FITZER was married to Julia ROCK on 2 Jan 1843 and on his marriage certificate his father is William. I have looked at the IGI but there are several Williams and I am not sure which one is his father, as on the census` I have he has given several different dates of birth!!!

Williams father was a Caster and the witnesses were: Francis Sedgwick and Elizabeth Bomne?...Bourne??
I think his mother was called Mary Ann Coton but I am not 100% on this.
Any help would be gratefully received!!!!

Hi all
I have just stumbled across this post from 2011. I am related to the Birmingham Fitzers via Frederick Fitzer my Grandad. Ellesbelles, I have managed to go back past the date you stated. Jim you mention that you are related to Birmingham Fitzers originally from Worcester. I am wondering how you established this link I have managed to trace back to my GGF x 6 Anthony Fitzer I cannot find a birth record for him but a marriage record to Ann Ancell dated 1758 so I imagine he was born around 1730. If anyone has any information I would very much appreciate it.

Hi Jim
You most likely wouldn't as Frederick is my grandfather so if related it would be at a higher level.
This is the information I have so far and we could possibly be related through one of them.
I can't seem to find any records in Birmingham earlier than Anthony's marriage date which is 1758 so I am wondering if records were either not kept or did one of the Fitzers from Worcester, London or elsewhere move there.
GGF = Bertie (1884 - 1954)
GGF2 = Henry (1849 - 1905)
GGF3 = Henry (1828-1914)
GGF4 = Thomas (1791-1851)
GGF5 = Francis (1766 - 1842)
GGF6 = Anthony (? to 1808)
This is why I was particularly interested in your comment that you have Birmingham ancestors originally from Worcester.
Any help appreciated thanks

The earliest Fitzer I have is Richard b. 1806 Alfrick Worcs.
The B'ham connection is his dau. Mary Ann b. 1838 Worcs. who lived in B'ham after marriage.

Thanks Jim and Rosie. I've come across Ellsbelles on Ancestry before and it looks like we have related up the line.

Jim1 - I seem to have made some progress and it appears that my Fitzers may originally have been from Worcester too. There's a link with Anthony Fitzer to Astley what's confusing though is that he appears to be the only one in the family who's surname is Fitzer it's Fitzer alias Anthonis and his other siblings and father are Anthonis. Within the Astley records there are various spellings of Fitzer and Anthonis and there a number of "Anthonis als Fitzer" and "Fitzer als Anthonis".
I am trying to find out why the alias is used. Sometimes it was when a mother married for a 2nd time  the child wished to maintain it's link with his father. This is not the case here as his parents are the same as his siblings. Another reason is where there is land ownership and they wish to maintain the rights to that land. If this is the case it's strange that his father is Anthonis. I need to do some more digging and check FindMyPast when I can get access to it, as can't seem to find anything on Ancestry. It at a glance appears that his paternal Grandfather was Thomas Fitzer als Anthonis, so the Fitzer first again, however this was just a record I found via a google search. I am wondering if any of your relatives may also be using an alias.

They were only ever Fitzer as far as I'm aware but I can only trace the family back to 1806 in Alfrick Worcs.

Hi Jim my Anthony Fitzer als Anthonis was baptised in 1734 (Shrawley) and the shrawley records go back to 1585 with variations of Fitzers such as Fidsoll, Fitsdoll, Fissher, Fidsall, Fittzer, Vizer. I have just checked TheAA and Alfrick and Shrawley are 12.5 miles apart and Astley another village with Fitzers and Anthonis is 13.1 miles. So really not much in it.
I have also found the following record that shows that someone from Alrick married someone from Shrawley so seems that it's very likely if I have traced my Anthony back to Worcestershire that we are related. http://www.shrawley.org.uk/uploads/2/3/1/1/23114340/marriages.pdf
