My mum has no idea about her mum side of the family and it seems ancestry.co.uk has no reccords, so I want to help her out.
My mum's name is Fanny Gilles Lobban and married Alexander Gordon Ralph, in Elgin. They had two daughters one being my mum. She thinks her aunt is named Annie Lobban also known as Granny Banff who took in children during WW2.
Any leads would be appreciated.

Hi
There is a marriage of an Alexander Ralph and a Fanny Lobban in the Banff area between 1950 and 1960. If this fits in with your mums age etc it can be found on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk but as the marriage is less than 75 years ago you will not be able to view the image. You can of course purchase an extracted copy at a cost of £12 .
This will give you hopefully the names of Fanny and Alexanders parents.
This site is great for researching Scotland ancestry.
Hope this helps

Try the free Libindx (watch the spelling!) site for anyone from Elgin or the Moray/Banff area generally. It has a people search facility which is very useful.

Hi Norma, the names don't ring a bell - wherabouts in Aberdeenshire?
Hi Buckie33 -- I think you need to make a minimum of three posts on the boards and then you get access to the PM system. So just add another reply to this one, and that should enable you to reply using PMs. Kind regards, A

glass is very close to huntly.
the generation i'm descended from in the era you mention was James Lobban b 1791, he had at least 7 brothers and sisters but none called John or Isabella. Could easy be a connection to the preceeding generation, but how to prove.
