Title: Photos of North Marston
Post by: PaulaToo on Thursday 28 July 11 23:00 BST (UK)
Made a visit to North Marston the other day and took a lot of pics.
I thought I would put some on for you to share.
Some are good, some are not so good ... and some are only from the little 72 dpi freebie camera that lives in my handbag ...
What ever, I hope you like them.
There may be a few more to come WHEN the son and heir gets his developed ...

Last of this lot, whew!
This is the Shorne Well. If you are ever in the village it's worth a visit.
Legend says the Saintly Sir John Shorne trapped the devil in a boot...
There is a boot on the side of the well and if you pump the handle long enough the devil rises from the boot ... only to sink back down again as the water drains away ... great fun

Great pictures Paula.  I'll be touring around that area, when I visit England at the end of next week.

I'm hoping to visit all, if not most of the churches in the Aylesbury, Buckingham and Bicester triangle.  Plus a few more over towards Long Marston in Hertfordshire.

So if you don't hear from me again, you'll know where I went missing. :o ;D

Great pictures, and thanks for sharing. ;)

Steve. :)

Where would NM be with out the Denchfields and Tattams, Jackie, bless their little cotton socks :D

You very well might get lost in the pub, Steve, son and heir told me he needed a ball of twine to find his way back from the little boys room ;D

None of those are actually mine, Rabbit, they are brothers and sisters of mine, if you get my meaning ...

Wonderful photos Paula!!!  :)

I don't suppose any of the Denchfield stones were in good enough shape to read?  How awesome it would be to find a stone for someone who was buried on one of the torn out bits......  :-\

By the By, I got some Ingram wills in the mail.....I'm hoping they're relatives of the one or two who married Denchfields  :) :)

Hi Claire,
When I went there some 20 years ago there were a few very crumbly stones that looked as they they had a D on them.
Son and I traced our fingers on any letters we could find, and I think they were a collection of Denchfields ... of course we didn't have a camera that day.
When we came back down to Oxfordshire after many happy years in the Highlands of Scotland, those stones had been taken away. We were bitterly disappointed as we had the camera ready ...
Good luck with the Ingrams.

Last two from me
If anyone visits North Marston and takes photos, please please please put some more on this thread. I'd love to see them.

By the way, if anyone does go there, watch out for this dear old cat, you can just make him out, strolling up the road by the church.
He is the most adorable old darling you could ever meet.

How very nice for Overseas members to see pictures like these Paula,
It looks like 'Olde' England should do.
If they are also researching family here,
I am sure that they will love them.

You must have been lucky, or this is a very quiet Village,
I am struck by the lack of traffic.

It's very quiet, Rabbit, very very quiet.
The sort of quiet peaceful kind of place it would be nice to retire to.  :'(

How lovely, have they a shop as well as a pub?
I will bet that is long gone!

Shop? What's a shop?
There's a pub and a church, that's it.
