Hi Killys

A tough one this... unable to find a wedding, plenty of other info if of any help, I've checked some of the SPR of St Chads both vol's and St Mary's Shrewsbury:

Benjamin appears to have been bap. in Minsterly/Westbury (if it is the correct Benjamin) SPR, Hereford diocese, this may be his birth record, Benjamin s. of Joseph Stanley and Elizabeth, 2 Oct 1791, bap.

As you say they have a number of children, below are 5 (there are more if you wish to follow up) that I found on the family search pilot (so not confirmed) not in any particular order:

Joseph, 25 May 1823, Atcham
*Benjamin, 31 May 1835, Atcham
*Leatitia/Letitia, 9 Nov 1832, Atcham
Sarah, 8 Dec 1820, Atcham
Catharine, 23 May 1825, corroborates your info.

The 1851 Wales census (Llandaff) (HO107/2455/593/46) confirms Benjamin Stanley aged 59 (b. 1791/2) and Elizabeth aged 58 (b. 1793), also in the household are *Letitia Aged 18 and *Benjamin aged 15, they must have moved to Wales at some point, if this info is correct.

Hope this helps..

Regards Geoff

Hiya...could you post the birth year of the first of Benjamin / Elizabeths children ...the earliest I can see on the posts is 1823 ....is that correct ?
it will help us look for a marriage year....usually  a year before the firstborn

Hi

It was Sarah b. 1820 from what I could see, see my first reply, though not confirmed as I found these on the pilot.

Hiya Keith...gone from 1810 to 1820 for a marriage of
Benjamin Stanley to an Elizabeth  ??? on Familysearch - advanced search

only result
12th dec 1814 Saint Peter ,Church St,Liverpool
Benjamin Standley to Elizabeth Roberts...
.if this is too early , it`s best forgotten - but Liverpool was extremely busy ,in fact the busiest port in the world , and many many people moved there to live for work...my own G grandmother came from Astley (which is in the Atcham register district ) to Garston,Liverpool....so if you have children to Benjamin/Elizabeth born 1815/16 , I would not discount it ...

Hope to hear........

Hello again

Just looked again at your request reBenjamin Stanley’s wedding.  Did you get any further?  I’m looking for any info re his death probably in Canton, Cardiff 1861. Various family contacts on ancestry have given 1861/63 but I can’t find a record.  Should I start a new thread on this site?  I’m stuck!!

Thanks
Diana

Welcome to Rootschat Diana.
Hopefully killys will reply to you soon.

Benjamin is still in Wales 1861 Census born c 1792 Westbury, Shropshire

Baptisms at Minsterley;
02 Oct 1791 BENJAMIN, s. of Joseph Stanley & Elizabeth.
Collection:   Shropshire: Westbury - Parish Registers, Hereford Diocese

As Elizabeth died 1867 if Benjamin was still alive he may have moved to live with one of his Children and died elsewhere and not necessarily in Wales.

Hi Trish
Thank you thank you, how did you find that so quickly?   I was concerned as one contact on ancestry had added “killed with wife Elizabeth 1861 by ex employee”, so I need to disregard that I hope.   Buried in Llandaff Cathedral sounds much better!!
Loved profile picture, many congratulations.

Just a bit more that Keith may already have;

Stanleys christened Westbury to JOSEPH/ELIZABETH(Familysearch.Org)
THOMAS 1 March 1778
WILLIAM 10 June 1781
JOSEPH 16 June 1783
SAMUEL 24 May 1785
RICHARD 7 Aug 1787
BENJAMIN 2 Oct 1791******
RICHARD 3 Sept 1793
CATHARINE 6 Dec 1795
JAMES and EDWARD 17 June 1798

I think it is likely that this is Joseph;

JOSEPH Stanley christened 12 May 1754, St Mary, Shrewsbury to JOSEPH/CATHERINE

And a likely Licence for his Parents;
Marriage License 1739
Battlefield, Shropshire
Catharine EVANS age 22
Joseph STANELY age 24
Marriage took place 7 December 1739   Battlefield

Working with that Marriage we have these Children to Joseph/Catherine;
THOMAS 2 Oct 1740 Battlefield
MARY 3 March 1744 Shrewsbury, died 30 Oct 1748
CATHERINE 28 Feb 1748 Shrewsbury
WILLIAM 22 July 1750 Shrewsbury, died 19 Dec 1750
JOSEPH 1754 as above

Hi Keith
Thanks for info. My family tree is slightly different ...
John Shenton m Catherine Stanley
They had a son Benjamin b 1861
He married Gulielma Hunt
They had a son Benjamin b 1893

This is where it’s different. My research showed
Benjamin m Amy Annie Caines b 1894 Oct 1912 Aston (B’ham Marriages & Banns)
No children, he died 1926, Amy died 1918
On the 1911 census Benjamin was a private Royal Warwickshire Regiment

Benjamin’s sister Martha m John James Pratt.
They had a daughter Florence, my grandma

There are too many Benjamins!   Ben Stanley b 1791 was head gardener at Attingham Park (at Atcham where they all lived) and on a board there he is listed as having 14 children whilst being a gardener there - one of them our Catherine.   So we are related!
Do you have any info re your Florence.   Get back to me if you are interested.
Regards-and Happy New Year
Diana

Hi Keith
How sad that Amy died so young, but what a wonderful woman your gran was to bring up all those children as a single mum.  Hard times.   Our Catherine too had a struggle bringing up seven children on her own when John died at 45.  Our family were all hard workers, all skilled with large families.

Hi Diane.

Yes familys had it bad in them times doing a family tree back
to 1700 you find a lot of hard times especially the amount of
children that died young in them days, if there is anything you need
to ask please do i have had a lot of help from my second cousin who
we came across through the family tree and i class her as a expert in family
history because she says everything must be proved with certificates and baptism info
she has gone back to the 1500 on her familys tree.

Happy new year to you and your family Keith.

Happy new year to you and family Keith.

Found the 1881 census were catherine is back in astley age 55 with son benjamin age 21
living with her brother thomas stanley, catherine is down as a servant and john a labourer.

You know john died age 45 in Bham well the reason catherine came back to astley after
john died he was in a fatal accident in Granville street Bham i have the coroners report
i will email it to you when i get it back from my sisters.

Post by: Dollyflo on Saturday 06 January 18 15:14 GMT (UK)
Hi Keith
Yes I did find out about John Shenton’s fatal accident.  I would appreciate a copy of the report one day.  Catherine’s family split after the 1841 census - something happened at Atcham to do with the Earl who squandered his money and left his staff jobless.  So Catherine went to B’ham and married John Shenton.  The rest I think went to Cardiff to find work and did OK as market gardeners, many are buried at Llandaff Cathedral.  Did you know Catherine’s sister Letitia met up with some Latter Day Saints and got a free passage to America. I have more details here and am in touch with a relative of Letitia.
I’m wondering if Catherine and her family got involved with the Peaky Blinders as they lived in one of the streets in the 1850s etc. I have Carl Chinn’s book about them and wouldn’t be surprised.  I could send you the book if you like as I’ve read it now, if you don’t already have it.
It’s all very interesting isn’t it?
Best wishes
Diana

Hi Diane.
No problem i know about john i thought because in 1881 catherine was in shrops
but when i looked at 1901 census she was with benjamin and family so really it looks like
she died here in 1909 and bens wife julianna died 1911 during child birth.
thanks  Keith.
