Hi all
I have the marriage cert of Iris Mary Rowland who married Gerald Thomas Woodfine in 1941, in welshpool. it says she was 21 years.
I found her death in aug 2002 which says she was born in sept 1920, but have not been able to locate her birth, any help would be great

On the marriage cert, what was the name of her father? We can try and find her parents first, to see the maiden name of her mother.

Forden was renamed Welshpool in 1936.

hi there .. that could be it . in fordon ;) but on her marriage it is Rowland not Rowlands, and she signed Iris Mary Rowland .her father name was levi Rowland (deceased)

The death you've got seems to be for an Iris Thomas, no Mary.

The birth found by silvery is likely, and Iris may have been illegitimate.
I can only found 1 death of Levi Rowland(s), and he died age 85 in 1930

Very Strange, as this would have put Levi at 61 years and Mary at 63 years at birth of Iris. and her birth says her mother maiden name is Rowlands ?

Iris could be the daughter of Levi's daughters Mary or Jane? Only the birth certificate can provide the answer :)

Yes It could well be, and her grandfather could have signed as her father on marriage cert.. Will have to buy her birth cert..

The father did not have to be there at the marriage. The registrar takes down the name from the person getting married and enters it.
Only the witnesses sign. Was he a witness? Who were the witnesses as sometimes they can give a lead?

Would be the wrong area though, as Levi was born in Cheshire. Can't find a birth in BMD but found him with his parents at Horton, Cheshire in 1861:

Looks like the Rowlands were Non-conformists. By 1871 they have 3 more sons: John, Simeon and Jeremiah!

Yes, on the original scan the age is 69. Freebmd has an error in that the next person in the list is 85.
I've done a correction to freebmd. It's age 69 on the ancestry transcription as well.
