hi,,are you sure of Georges birth year,,,,in the 1891 census,,,he is b 1823?

there is a George Hoby with father James in the 1841 census in Middlesex,,,he is listed as age 20,,,but the age may have been rounded down by 5 years,,,so he could be born c 1828  ?

1871 census has his age as 34 - so born 1837.
But daughter Mary is 17 (b 1854) and was therefore born when George was 16/17?

In 1881, George is age 45 (so b 1836).

And, as gortonboy pointed out, in 1891 he is age 69 (b 1822).

It would appear that George was economical with the truth as far as his age was concerned?

His death:
December qtr 1896
Chorlton district   vol 8c, page 524
Hoby, George    age 60 (implied year of birth 1836)

I wonder how economical he was about his age  :-\

There's a christening at St. John, Hampstead;
George Hoby, b. 3 Apr, ch. 4 Aug 1819 to James and Sarah.
James was a Laceman.

English Death Certificates don't supply any information re parents  :(
And no-one had to supply proof re age, when getting married! So he could have said anything at all!  ;D
