The 1851 census for Honiton, Devon, England makes reference to a birthplace of Ponsama in Italy.
This place does not appear to exist - does anyone have a hunch as to what the town/place/village might actually be?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi
It's always helpful to post the name of the person and the 1851 reference so we can look at the image
In this case - it's indexed as Pontana

Thanks Carole.
I'll see if I can find a Pontana anywhere in Italy.

Here is the entry in case anybody can help

Could it be Pontano?

It is more likely to be an 'o' on the end of the word.
There is a Ponsano in Tuscany.
