Can any one help me with tracing my Grandmothers family roots please? She was born Annie Coates and was born or lived in Leek up to her marriage in c1901 to Mackintyre Boswell and the they moved to Stockport (Cheshire) where they remained.
-
The free 1911 index shows an Annie Boswell aged 24 living in Stockport. There is also a "Macky" Boswell aged 28 living in Stockport which I assume is her husband
Freebmd shows they married in 1904 - not 1901
Marriages December qtr 1904
Mackintire Boswell Leek 6b 497
Annie Coates

The 1891 census has 2 entries - one b 1886 Leek parents Joseph & Rose and the other b 1887 Mayfield parents William & Emma
Do you have any more details re: her parents or siblings to help determine the right entry?
It's likely to be the one b Leek from what you have said above but I don't want to post details that may not be correct

Her Father was called Joseph.. that's all I know except that she was married at St Edwards Church Leek and was living at 3 Quarry Low Bank, Mill Street also in Leek around the time she Married. Thanks again Carol

A possible marriage for her parents - the entry can also be found on freebmd in the September qtr www.freebmd.org.uk

The 1881 census can be searched for free on the following link and it would appear to be a second marriage for Joseph

Wow!! Thank you so much Carol, can I be cheeky and ask if you could help me with 'anything' on Annies husband Mackintyre BOSWELL? Again the only info I have is his date of marriage to Annie at St Edwards in Leek. Address at the time 3 Quarry Low Bank, Mill St, Leek. ( I do have his death certificate and relevant info of his life from marriage upto his death). He was a traveller of Gypsie background, I'd be so grateful if you could help Carol. Regards Sterling

Hi
You would need to look at the 1911 entry to establish his birthplace as I can't find a birth for him on freebmd
1911 lookups are not allowed on Rootschat so you would need to buy credits to view that Stockport entry
-
Just found this baptism - transcribed as MacKintyor Boswell
Christened Ipstones 17.5.1886 - parents William & Lucy
MacIntyre died Stockport 1953 - birthyear shown as 1887
I've checked the 1891 and 1901 but no trace of him
-
Thank you again Carol... The Christening of Mackintyre Boswell in 'Ipstones'..... was there a mention of which church or Parish etc please? Regards Sterling

Here's the link - no church shown

Hi Sterling,
I wondered if you had any more joy with the Mackintyre search?
The suggestions on this thread don't match with the Mackintyre that married Annie Coates and lived in Stockport.
it would be very useful to speak to you and share anything we know.
Thanks,
Carl

Hi Sterling,
My great grandmother is Lavinia (sometimes Louisa) Coates, Annie's sister. Lavinia's parents are Joseph and Rose (Rose Hanna, Rose Ann). My grandfather Joseph was born in 1909, 31 Mill Street, Leek. He came to Canada in 1924 with Barnardo's. Do you know what happened to the other siblings? Joseph was living with George in the 1911 census. Lavinia was in the Cottage Hospital, Leek in 1911.
