I've reached a complete dead end with regards to my Great Uncle James Gilchrist & his wife Mabel (nee Hamilton) & would be so grateful if anyone might be able to help me discover when James & Mabel died.
James was born on thee 25th December 1884 in Cannanore, Madras, India(father serving in British Army). He emigrated to U.S.A. from England in 1903. He married Mabel in 1917. On the 1920 census they lived in the Assembly District 9, Kings N.Y. On the 1930 census they still lived in Kings. No mention of any children. I have found a WW1 draft registration (roll no.1754307) & WW2 draft registration (serial no.1308) for James. On WW2 draft reg. his address was 115.61-222 Street, St. Albans, QUEENS, N.Y.
I have very little information on Mabel except she was born in New York in 1880 & her father was English.
I would dearly love to find the last part of the puzzle relating to James & hopefully Mabel.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Sandra,
Many thanks for your fast response. I'd already discovered their marriage date but thank you for those 3 suggestions on Mabel's family. I'm positive she's the one aged 30 born in NY. It's the right year. I've discovered so much about James from the records apart from the date of his death. My grandfather & James half brother died back in 1953 & there's no living members of the direct family still alive who might have known some more about him. So close to ending his story but hoping might discover the last chapter.
Really appreciate your help.

Hello Fran,
Realised you had found the marriage when I came across the family tree entry later in the searching.
Perhaps the marriage certificate would help confirm the parents of Mabel for you.
Looks as if this could be her in 1880 Brooklyn. Kings. - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/M4J9-Q6J/p_252853942

Hi Sandra, I'm convinced that's Mabel & many thanks for information. All I need to discover is when they both died. Keeping fingers crossed for a result. All the best & thanks again for your help. Fran.

New York City Deaths go up to 1948 on http://italiangen.org/NYCDEATH.STM but apart from that nothing else seems to be available online at the moment.
RAOGK have a volunteer on the link below under - New York City (All) who will do "Public Records library lookups and copying. Obituaries. Gravestone pictures." Might be worth an e-mail to see if they can help ???

Hi Sandra, many thanks for the link to RAOGK.ORG/New York. Made contact with a very helpful lady who died a search in Queen's for me but unfortunately without any success on either James or Mabel. So just hoping some information will turn up in the future.
Thanks again for your help. All the best. Fran.
