Hi i am after any information on Samuel Fowler (born 1763) and is predecessors. He married Mary May and had a number of children including John Fowler born approx 1796 and who married Mary Ann De Rosier in 1824. They emigrated to New Zealand in 1842. Thanks

I am so interested in your post as my husband's family includes the Fowlers from Ramsbury. :)
He is descended from Sarah Fowler, the daughter of John and Mary Ann, who married William Pratt. William and Sarah's daughter Emma married into the Lewin family.
I have some information on the earlier Fowlers given to me by a relation but have not checked it out myself yet!

Yes we are distantly related. I have a photo and some information on William Pratt that I obtained through a goggle search. Thanks Trish I need to sit down and digest the information you have provided. I think the first posting makes is a definite but the second has confused me abit. I'll need to refer to an old copy of the family tree that someone made many years ago but the names are hard to read so hopefully I might be able to make a match.

I am pretty sure that what I have posted on Samuel 1765 is correct. There cant be many Samuel Fowlers of that age born in Ramsbury.
And in fact he is the only one I have been able to find.

Thanks both Trish and Barbara. Yes you are right Trish, you have filled the gaps in the paper document that is difficult to read. The document seems to go back one more generation as to who John Fowler, Samuel's father, but i am having difficult reading and wonder if you can shed any light on it. This is what I can read.
John's dad is called William who was a lander owner. It appears from what I can read he had 2 wives, the first name i can not read the second appears to be Isrolle or Isaolle????. Unfortunately I can not decipher any more words.

I have found the tree that I was given by a family member. It mainly concentrates on the descendants of Sarah Fowler and William Pratt but it has some information on the ancestors of Sarah - both the Fowler and the Rozier families. I am not sure who drew this up or how rigorous the research was but some of the information was clearly obtained from a will.
From this it looks like John Fowler was the son of Samuel and Mary May.
Samuel was the son of John and Mary Day
John was the son of another John from Marlborough
John was the son of William of Marlborough who married twice, first to a Foster and then to somone with whom he had 6 children.

I am looking for any info on John Fowler (b.1792 wiltshire d.24.4.1888 motueka nz) & Mary Ann [ nee De Rosier ] they lived in Ramsbury Wiltshire had a number of children. I would like to find and trace Johns side his father/brothers,sisters etc.
Also (samuel b.1763 d.1848 Wiltshire m.Elizabeth Appleford), who the other family members are and where they may be buried and who they married and any photos i have been told that there was 2 children of John & Mary's may be buried in Ramsbury.but what church and place

It seems we are researching the same families. My husband is descended from Sarah Fowler who was the daughter of John Fowler and Mary Ann Rosier amd who married William Pratt.
I keep getting sidetracked from investigating this family so have probably not made much progress since 2011 but I will see what I have.

between us we maybe able to help each other, I am connected via John Fowler (sara's brother)/ Lucy Clark
they all came to NZ on the Indus
John had a son John David m Sophy Walsh they had a son Roy Ashley Fowler (my g.grandad) I come from his daughter Erina Ruby Fowler my mother was Beverley Jolly(nee Cook)
I have many photos of our line but still look for more and more information will be doing a trip to the UK soon so all information will help

I have been checking to see what I now have on the Fowlers.
I have a copy of the marriage record for John and Mary Ann Rosier. I also have a copy of Sarah's baptism record. I have the family on the 1841 census and a copy of the Indus passenger list. I also have a copy of a photo of John and Mary Ann and a copy of a photo of their gravestone in Riwaka Cemetery. Incidentally I have John's death as 24 April 1883 at the age of 91 and Mary Ann's on 20 July 1884 aged 82.
I also have a brief memoir by Sarah Pratt nee Fowler about her early years in NZ as well as a copy of the book by her husband William about his experiences when he arrived. I am sure that latter includes something about Sarah's brother John but I can check. I have Sarah's death certificate and will.
Other than that I have collected together various entries from family search and some transcripts relating to the Fowler family. I need to verify these by either vsiting the Wiltshire Archives or buying fiche copies of the parish registers. It seems I also ought to buy the death certificates for John and Mary Ann Fowler!
What I need to do is get this information in some sort of an order as I have obtained it from various sources over a period of time. Your enquiry seems an opportune moment.

I am a descendant of the Fowler family from Ramsbury... My name is Glen Molloy (my father is Alistair Fowler)... Edwin Fowler is my 3Great Grandfather... Sarah Pratt (Fowler) is my 3Great Aunt... the family emigrated to New Zealand in 1842. I am looking for any information I can get about the family :) I understand that there is a Journal the Sarah wrote, I am wondering if anyone has access to or has a copy of it as I would love to read it :) Also any photos of the family that I could have scans of would be greatly appreciated... thank you :)

It is good to find another Fowler researcher. I have a fair amount of information on the family although I still need to get to the Wiltshire archives to look at the Parish Registers.
I do have notes on Sarah Fowler's early life in NZ - not sure whether they form part of a journal or are from an interview she did later in life. I will check. I have a few photos although they are copies of copies so the quality isn't good.
What do you already know about the Fowler family?

So I am descended from Edwin Fowler... he is my 3 great grandfather... I currently have details that take this line back to William Fowler b 1680 d 1740... I have a couple (3 in total) bites of info from Sarah Pratt (Fowler) about their early life in New Zealand, but would love to know more!!!!!! Also any photos (even copies of copies that may be scanned) would be really appreciated.
About me: So, I am Glen Molloy (my father is Alistair Fowler- mother choose not put him on my birth cert :( and they separated when I was about a year old) I am 33 years old and live in Auckland New Zealand. I was put into foster care at the age of 5 by my mother, so did not get to grow up with my family, and so the research I am doing is allowing me to gain a sense of belonging to my family heritage :)

I am also a descendant of Samuel Fowler grandson Edwin was my g grandfather, his son Trevor was my Granddad, all i know is the Granddad and Grandma (Rose Brooks) lived in the 88 Valley area of Nelson and hen moved to Wakefield then to Spring Creek in Marlborough where he worked on the Railways.
I have some info about the family re Edwin's siblings and children thats about all any extra would be helpful.

The 2 youngest children were born in New Zealand and I have no more information on them at present. Their names and approximate dates of birth were on John Fowler's death certificate (1883). That certificate also names his parents as Samuel Fowler and Mary Mary
The baptisms have all been checked in the Ramsbury Parish Registers.
The trees I inherited suggest the line of descent you have outlined but I have not checked it completely as yet. I can let you have the unverified details if you would like.

I have just begun my search on the history of my family but my grandmother has been doing it for some time. I have recently relocated to Riwaka and my gran decided to tell me we are descendants of someone who used to live here - William Pratt. I am trying to get my hands on Sarah Pratt's journals which you mention Barbara. I am going to the local museum (which has a large amount of information on the families that lived here) next week so I may be able to shed some light on the younger two fowler children. From what I can see, there is an Emily Fowler who remained in the area, unmarried, until her death in 1917. The grave search says she was 71 which puts the birthdate of 1847 about right.
Sarah and William's daughter, Frances, married ? Anderson and their daughter, Phyllis, married Henry Kitson - my great grandfather.
